OK so the good news…I am no longer considered to be Diabetic!! I was diagnosed about 28 months ago and have been taking medication for it. I stopped taking my meds a week before surgery. Doctor wasn’t happy I did that, but I finally find a new PCP and she checked out everything. I no longer take meds for HBP either. The only thing I take now is Zantac 150mg for up to six months, Multi vitamin, and calcium. He added Vitamin D today. I am to take one capsule once a week for 12 weeks. I also got a b-12 shot today. He did mention that my good cholestral was low, but my bad cholestral was ok so dont worry about it. Doc cleared me for everything 1. Medications in pill form (YAY) 2. No restrictions on activity (back to weight training and running) 3. Follow a low fat, low carb, high protein diet (no more mushy or pureed foods) I see him back in 6 weeks. 4 days before my 42nd Birthday

I have a couple questions and yes I did ask the doctor these already, but I would love your feed back here.

Whats a good multi vitamin to take? Whats a good calcium supplement? How do I get more Vitamin D beside taking pills?

OK I know this is long but last but not least. A picture of me taken yesterday!!

A good multi is Centrum, or a generic equivalent.

Any calcium CITRATE is good - just no carbonate.

You won't get your D up unless you take a D3 supplement.  And a big dose.  Below 80, you're at increased risk for stuff like osteoporosis and heart disease.  The Rx your doc gave you won't help - it's D2 in oil.  We need dry D3.  You can order 50,000 IU dry D3 from vitalady.  Many of us took one a day until our level hit 80, then cut back a bit.

Your B12 and protein are both low, too.  Especially the B12.  It's low enough to cause fatigue and depression.  Much lower and you can get nerve damage in your hands and feet.

Good job with the diabetes!

thanks Kelly I knew I could count on you to make suggestions. The script I got for Vit D was 50,000 IU cap.  It says it generic for Drisdol.

I will check out vitalady.

Thanks again

Right.  And that's D2.  And it's in oil.  D3 is absorbed many times better, and you malabsorb fats now, so you need vitamins that are not in oil.  You cannot get D3 by prescription, you have to buy it over the counter.
