I just found out my dog Tazzie  has cancer.  She is 11 years old and I have had her since she was 6 weeks old.  She is my best friend.
The vet says it was found early and he thinks he can get it all out and she would be fine but of course he can't guarantee it.  It is going to cost over $500 but it will be worth it if she is cured.  I am afraid that they won't be able to get it all or that it has spread.  I know it seems crazy to spend $500 on a 11 year old dog but if she can live out a normal lifespan without any problems I would be so happy.

of course I can pray for your little furry friend.  they are like family.  May God's hand be on your dog for a successful surgery and a swift recovery.  Furr babies are such a comfort when no one else can be there for you.  know that you and your puppy are in my thoughts and prayers....    Joan

Not long after my surgery this year, my Sugar dog was diagnosed with cancer also. It was alot of money but I could not let her down. Praise the Lord it has not returned and the doctor is quite happy, even though the cancer was all the way to the margins (it was in a really bad spot to try to remove, between her toes). She bears a striking resemblance to your dog. Mine is a rat terrier and is 10 years old almost 11. I can't imagine like without her. I will be praying for you both, God answers prayer.

I am so sorry you and Tazzie are having to go through this. I  certainly hope the vet is able to get it all and she has a speedy recovery.

I lost my lil Sailor chihuahua last year he was 19 years old. He had an aneurysm, Still miss him so much.

My prayers for Tazzie and you.

We just found another tumor so that means it has spread.  The vet said that if it has spread then there was nothing that could be done.  I am heartbroken.  I sent an email to the vet but I don't know if they can take out the second tumor or if it wouldn't do any good.

Are you sure the second tumor you found isn't a fatty tumor? Alot of dogs as they age get those and they are harmless. My dog has one of those also. Simple test at the vet can tell if it is a fatty tumor.

No, it feels exactly like the first tumor only smaller.  The vet didn't seem to have any doubt that it was cancer.

Oh sweetie I'm so sorry.  If it feels the same as the original then sadly your vet is right.  I was a vet tech prior to having my daughter.  We had to put my 11-year-old ****er, Waterbug, down this summer for the same thing.  It started out as 1 tumor and spread quickly.  Unfortunately, chihuahuas are prone to cancer.  We didn't have her put down until it started messing with her quality of life though.  She lived about a year after we found the tumors, but when they started to effect her breathing and kidney function we knew it was time.  I wish I could hug you through the computer.  People that don't have pets don't understand that they become like your children.

Make Tazzie's days left with you as wonderful as you possibly can.  She knows she is loved and no matter what happens a part of her will always be with you.  Her last few weeks I made a scrapbook of Waterbug's life from the time we got her when I was just 16 years old.  It was bittersweet, but it helped me process things as well.  If you have the time I'd suggest doing something like that.  Waterbug spent those days lying by me as we looked over our memories for the past 11 years.  It didn't make her passing any less painful, but it made it easier to process.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and Tazzie.

Thank you.  I have been going through this with my oldest dog, JJ.  He was diagnosed with congestive heart failure about 1 1/2 years ago and was given about a year to live.  I have been babying him and cherishing my time with  him.  JJ is very small and fragile looking.  Tazzie is a big girl.  She was nearly 19 lbs at the vets today.  I just thought she would live forever.  She has always been so healthy and strong.  Never been sick once.  She has always been my best friend.  She is just very loyal, always by my side.  She follows me into the bathroom and sits at my feet and looks up at me.  She is always at my feet or she sleeps in my arms at night.  I am just so sad.  I know they are getting old and they have such a short lifespan but I thought I had a lot more time to worry about losing her.
