"So, your doing this for your health, right?

This will be the third time I have tried to post this.......hope it works!

I understand that we all do it for OUR own reasons, to that I say "yeah us!", we are taking back our lives, health and happiness in our way. Everyone deserves that in life. What was irking me I guess, is the lady was suppose to be a "friend". And for her to say that to me (did I mention she looked at me after and shook her head in disgust?) really pissed me off I guess. She knows me, my issues and my struggles. If I was not the sweet person that I am, I would have snapped her neck like a twig! (not really)

So, just in case there was any question, I am having my surgery (on friday!!) for my health, happiness and overall well being. The person on the inside, may finally match the one on the outsides! So cheers to all of us "losers"!

Yep I was tired of being freaking fat! I had been overweight my entire life and disliked myself. I thought being thin would solve my problems and DAMNIT the same old problems are still around.

I did have one or two health issues but they still weren't what really drove me to the OR table.
Just a few more steps to wonderland......and believe me I am taking baby steps (ugh).

hey ncmdgirl, I love your honesty!  Its so important to hear being thin doesn't solve problems and the same issues re: self esteem, etc... will still be around after surgery.

Vanity did not drive me to the knife my sore body lack of energy and being a 41 year old grandma that wanted to play with her 5 grandbabies did. I do not have diabetes but my mom does. She was a boring obese grandma and I will zip line, bungee jump, and run marathons with my grandkids. I'm hell bent on doing this for me and my life so guess what? It's your life and its nobodies business why you're doing this but I wish you happiness and good health!

You have 5 grandchildren at 41????   Woweeee!  I had my last baby at 41 - guess I'll be waiting a while for him to give me grandchildren LOL!!!

I just have to hope my 21 year old doesn't make me wait another 10 years!

Good on you for making this decision for your health and to have fun with those lovely babies!

At 41, my youngest will be 17. I keep joking that once I have her all off to college I am moving to Mexico and taking a lover. LOL!

That sounds like a grand plan.

I waited until I was 48 and got myself a nice young boyfriend (32!) - definitely can't wait til mine leave home - I'll be near my 60's!!!!   LOL

Me too, I'll be 56 when my baby graduates from high school.  If they wait til they are mid to upper 20s or even in their 30s before they have children I may not live to see grandchildren.

I had surgery for MANY reasons including vanity. I've always been a "fat fly girl" always had an active social life and plenty of boyfriends. I've been married to the same man for 15yrs and have 4 beautiful children. The thing is that eventhough I was "healthy" I was borderline hypertension (long family history of it), had arthiritis in both knees and because I had gestational diabetes with my 3yr old twins I was high risk for developing type 2 diabetes.

I felt like at the age of 40 I was too young to feel so old. My aches and pains were limiting the activities I could do with my kids. Also, was worried about crazy things like not be able to save my life or the lives of children in case of an emergency like

trapped in a car - can't fit out window,
burning house- not fast or fit enough to scoop everybody up and get out the house
if one of the twins ran in the street -can I move fast enough to get her etc...

Yes, looking SEXier is a bonus BUT not a motivating factor
