It is almost the big day!!
If you have and are bringing a CPAP, and this is no joke, bring your own distilled water. At GBMC they don't have distilled water, they have and gave me sterile water. I used it for all 4 days and it has made my machine and all it's parts stink horribly. I happened to have an extra mask and tubing to change, so I know longer have to suffer, but if I didn't, I'd be screwed.
Hey girly ---I don't have a CPAP machine, but that is a good thought for people who do have one! I am so happy to hear how well you are doing ---your status keeps me optimostic, especially since we have the same surgeon!! Thanks hunny you are truly the best, will they give me a schedule of our support groups at our surgeons office?
Chapstick is surly a must...wish I would have known. I brought a comfortable pair of pajama pants (big ones) and a big comfy tshirt so that I would have something to wear to walk in. Sounds like you got it all covered so Good luck to you and you are going to do amazing!!! 6 days out and down 15 for me, loving the life.
RNY on 03/26/12
I havent had my surgery yet but I hear its a good idea to bring something comfortable to wear when you leave the hospital. Maybe some soft pants like sweats. Wishing you the best.
Donna the best chapstick for me was Blistex cold & allergy lip soother its green tea & honey...OMG my lips were so dry in the hospital (I am talking about skin peeling and all) and I put this on and my lips and they felt like heaven. So now this is the only chapstick I use and now I have my whole family using it...
I did also bring shampoo/conditioner and body wash, on my third day I was finally allowed to take a shower because they stablized my BP, and the shower felt so good.
They provided me a special pillow so I didn't need one of those, and I got to keep it. The only other things I brought were slippers, my robe, and pj bottom to make it easier when I walked.
I wish you the best of luck in your upcoming surgery....

I had my surgery on 12/20/11 and those sponge things were the bomb! I do not think I would have been able to rest at all if not for those things. I would also suggest a toothbrush and/or mouthwash.
I had a bladder infection right after surgery but we (doctor, nurse and I) figured it out quickly and I only had to stay one extra day in the hospital.
I am home now and doing good. My doctor requires 3 weeks of a modified liquid diet so I am drinking away. I am looking forward to soft foods. I have also been able to walk everyfday since surgery. I did 1/2 mile today and hope to increase it each day. I do not want to have to have plasic surgery. I want this to be it!
I hope you have an uneventful surgery and are home quicky. I know that I had to wait 6 months before my insurance company would approve my surgery and that was the hardest part as they needed one more thing and one more thing before they finally said yes.
I read a lot of post and I am grateful this web site is here.
