Bowel movements....
Hi,
I am looking to find out when to expect my first bowel movement. I am 7 days out of surgery. I don't feel contsipated but when I was taliking w another Patient she mentioned she was taking a lax. I simply figured I'm only drinking liquids and as long as I'm peeing I'm ok. Any words of wisdom out there?

Humm, I was given a stool softener and I started having bowel movments like a day or two after released from the hospital. So if your not taking stool softener or haven't had one yet call the dr and see if he want you on stool softener. The anesthetic and all the chemicals need to come out but can be constipating .
Seven days is too long not to have a bowel movement. Definitely call your surgeon's office asap and see what they recommened. Also, if you are taking post-op pain meds, they can be very constipating, even if you are only drinking liquids right now. Also, try to increase your fluid intake (I know it's easier said than done!) and don't forget to walk, walk, walk!
Hi I am exactly 7 days out of surgery and i was having the same issue , my Dr. did give me a stool softner I barely had a bowel movement yesterday . I do agree with others walk walk as much as you can and as often as you can (short walks) and your water helps as well !!
I would def. call the Dr's if you keep feeling the constipation especially if you are having any discomfort
