Starting Pre Op Diet Tomorrow - Advice Wanted!!
RNY on 02/14/12
Hi Guys!!
I have 5 weeks to go until my surgery and I am going to start a diet tomorrow, for the next 3 weeks to try and lose as much healthy weight as I can before I have to start my pre-op 2 week liquid diet.
I figured this would be a good time to start cutting back on my carbs and upping my protein in prepartion for the post op diet.
I would really appreciate your help on what you think my daily diet should consist of.
PS I will also start walking everyday....God help me not have a heart attack! What happened to the days I used to job 4 miles???!!
Much love,
Sheila

Our surgery must be at about the same time! Mine is scheduled February 9th. I will be picking up my liquid diet this week. I start it on January 29th---it is for 10 days. Let us all know how it goes. I am a little anxious about it. Sounds like you will be on the same liquid plan as I. It will be the protein liquids with 1/2 cup of veggie or fruit twice a day. The only other thing I have to do is an appt. with the surgeon to sign my consent. Good Luck to you! Hope all goes well.
Toasting to you with a protein shake!
Best Wishes,
Karen

Ok, this might not be everyone's opinion, but for what it's worth.
You are still 5 weeks out, and I know you are excited to lose this weight, and you will....trust me. But I don't see the need for a "diet" right now. Yes, you should be watching what you eat, but I would not deny myself at this point, I would just try to start a new lift style.
Try eating proteins and lowering your carbs, but if you feel like having pizza with friends, so do it because once you have surgery that will be off limits for quite a while (not forever)
Dieting SUCKS, so why do that to yourself. The liquid part is going to be hard enough. Just try now to start getting into the habit, because this is not about diet it's about changing habits.
the walking sounds like a good plan.

I figured that I should start cutting back and followng some kind of diet plan so when i start the liquid diet and then the post op diet thereafter it won't be such a shock for my brain and i can be somewhat prepared. Also my doc told me I should try and lose as much weight as possible before the surgery.
I've been eating bad for 4 years now I think its time to let go LOL ....BUT I do plan on having a few drinks this upcoming weekend, I think that's what I'm going to miss most, I love having a real cold beer watching a football game or a few drinks when out with the girls.

Yeah, I didn't mean like let go and just eat all day, whatever you want. You just don't want to think of any of this as a diet. Diets always fail.
Drinking will never be the same after your surgery. It can be a hot topic on this board, so I will just say this, the few drinks I have had I get REALLY drunk really fast and then I feel sober about 10 minutes later. Most types of drinks are loaded with carbs and sugar and make me feel yucky afterwards, so I have found drinking not to be the same fun it used to be. My friends are having the hardest time excepting that. They think it is so horrible, like they would rather be dead then never drink again.

This is a great time to get yourself into a proper mindset for the new body and the new digestive system that you're going to have soon. In particular, pay attention to how surprisingly filling the high-protein foods are, and develop and appreciation to how much less food you'll need if you stick to the high-protein stuff. This doesn't mean that you'll enjoy the flavor or the texture, but it *IS* filling!
