My Surgery Has Made My Dogs Obese

The picture at the top is Princess and on the bottom is Pepper.  A year and a half ago Princess weighed about 4 lbs.  Now she is over 8 lbs.  She has doubled her weight.  If she were a human she would qualify for surgery.  Her doggy BMI must be around 50.  Pepper has gained about 4 lbs, too.
What happened?  Well, after my surgery I wasn't eating as much as I used to.  But my eyes were always bigger then my stomach so I would serve myself a normal portion and then be unable to fini****  Of course these guys made themselves available to help me out.  And now the meals I make for my daughter are the same meals I used to share with her.  She won't eat leftovers and since there is always leftovers guess who gets them?  I just can't throw out good food.  I try to make her smaller portions but she likes things like mac and cheese and hamburger helper.  I know, I know, she doesn't need to be eating that crap, either, but I am the one who had surgery and I can't expect her to change the way she eats because I did.  I make enough of what I am having for her but she won't eat it because it is "healthy".  I don't mind eating leftovers so that isn't a problem but when I take more then I can eat and I have 4 faces sitting there looking at me longingly I just can't say no.  That is my problem with both the dogs and the kid but that's another post.
So I have obese Chihuahuas.  I was joking with my daughter that I wanted to bring Princess to the vets and ask him about gastric bypass for her, just to see his face.  Actually though I think the sleeve would be better for her.  I wonder if I can sell that idea?

I have chihuahuas too and my doctor warned me when I was getting ready for surgery, "Be careful with your doggy or he'll end up fat!" I asked her why and she said people tend to feed their pets the leftovers and end up with overweight dogs. Well, my dogs have! And it's only been 6 weeks! My chi's are 2 & 3 lbs, but they've each gained about a half a pound. I need to be careful...

Nobody warned me.  Princess was also fixed around that time and that probably contributed to her gain.  I really need to help her lose weight.  She snores and wheezes like a man.  She is a petite dog and now she looks like a basketball with legs.

OMG, I have been feeding my ****u my extras, my husband said the other night when Abbey couldnt jump up in the chair, "your getting fat, little one".  Guess I better just start putting it in the trash.  Thanks for the post.

Cook smaller meals and dump the leftovers into the garbage.

You aren't doing your dogs any favors by overfeeding them because you can't gorge yourself silly anymore.

my cat has been obese since she was a year old or so, so when i was getting surgery me and my mom would joke that we should bring her in for kitty gastric bypass lol. i put her on a diet and she didn't lose anything, and she can't get too much exercise in my tiny room in my apartment.
