Hernia???
RNY on 02/14/12
Thanks everyone!! Greatly appreciated! I love this site, it has truly helped me not feel alone.
My surgeon spotted a small hiatal hernia on my endoscopy. I had my RNY last Friday, in which the surgeon did the bypass and ended up repairing the hernia all within 1 hour and 1/2. I have the 6 incision that he said I would have and as for the pain, I could not tell you which is causing most of my pain and discomfort.

Hi, Sheila!
I can't really address your question about hernias, simply because I'm still in the process of even deciding whether to have surgery or not, LOL! I had a hiatal hernia many, many years ago (right after my first son was born, and he's 28), but I'm guessing it was resolved, as I've never had a problem with it, just that one episode of pain and terrible discomfort. It was explained to me that it was probably caused by my pregnancy, and that it would take care of itself. Anyhow, this really isn't applicable to your situation.
However. . . I read your posts, and your profile page, and can really relate to your fears and anxiety about surgery; I'm having those, as well. I tend to be a real worry-wort, too, and usually blow things way out of proportion. For whatever it's worth, it seems to me that most surgeons do a lot of diagnostics prior to surgery, and that they wouldn't go ahead with it if they were concerned things wouldn't work out. Just thinking about that has reassured me, and I'm feeling more and more positive about having this done, finally.
I think the fact you are young, and basically don't have a lot of "miles" on your body
is probably a big factor in your favor. I hope you will be able to stay positive, and focus on all wonderful benefits you'll have when the weight starts coming off.
Wishing you all the best,
Beth
