Ok  here it is   I was told to stop drinking  and "eating"   when I feel full   but  I really don't feel anything  full or empty   My surgery was on the 23rd   I am hoping that this is something that will develope  as I heal.     When did you "feel"  in yours.

I measured everything and only ate what I was told to in amount. I must have been six months out before I even tried to see if I was "full". I wasn't taking any chances. With the nerve cut in surgery you probably can't tell if you are full anyway until it healed.

I share my surgery date with you.  I feel uncomfortable and thats when I stop-I measure what I drink tho and only sip on an ounce at a time.  Last nite I felt bloated and very uncomfortable after my protein drink and think I overdid it.  I think it takes time to understand the new signals our pouches are sending us-I feel more today than I did yesterday.

A lot of people report a lack of feeling for several weeks, due to the nerves getting cut. I did not experience that, but for my first 3 weeks or so, the feelings I had were very confusing ones. I told my wife, "I can't tell if I'm starving, or I'm stuffed, or if I'm just healing."

In any case, we have a brand-new digestive system, and it works very differently from the one we grew up with. And it sends new kinds of signals. We're like babies, learning everything from scratch. I'm NOT exaggerating.

So don't worry, just follow what your surgeon says. And good luck!

The best thing to do is measure your food - and don't eat more than a half cup. Since you won't get your feeling back in your pouch for a while, don't rely on it telling you anything. Before long you will be able to know when to stop, but for now measure. :)

What the others say .. when I was early out we only were allowed to eat 1/4 cup of food and we were supposed to sip our liquids.  I just measured what I ate and ate only that much.  You might get a full signal like your nose running or hiccups or something else rather than what you used to know as 'full'. It might take up to six months for the old full feeling to come back.

I had mine 1-18 and Im going threw the same thing. It is really hard to know. I always feel full and have disconfort after drinking still. I now know what it feels like to get to much not fun. I think today I was hungry my tummy groweled like before surgery which was weird. I think walking has really helped because the air/gas can be uncomfortable making me feel full almost stuffed. I am mesuring out food and taking 20 min to eat about a 1/2 c. and am starting to be more mindfull of my body. I notice myself kind of hiccuping or taking a deep breath when i think Im done eating. I really had to look for other signs of being full.  :)

Ditto everybody...measure. I still most often eat measured portions,
although at just over a year out I could eat more and sometimes do.
I still have no reliable hunger or full signals except for a hiccup
when I'm full, although that signal failed me today and I actually
felt a bit uncomfortable for about 15 minutes after I ate more
than I needed.  I have GladWare type containers at home that
I store leftovers and soups and stews in so I can grab and go
for lunches at work and everything is measured and ready. I
use clean ones at home to serve up food, then I put it on my
plate. That way I'm usually getting about a cup of food. The
exceptions seems to be salads, of which I can eat a much
larger portion. I think, for me, that I will always rely on
measuring. Eating until I'm full or over-full is part of what
got me here in the first place.  Good luck!
