Bloated and Constipated

Doesn't that sound like fun?  I have been eating Gas Ex like it was candy and taking Miralax.  I have been very regular with Miralax before but I just had hernia surgery yesterday and between the pain meds and the pain at the though of straining I am very  uncomfortable.  What can I do for relief.  I was thinking about taking some Milk of Magnesia.  Or an enema?  Suppository?  laxative?  What is best for relief from this gas hell?  My stomach is very distended and I look like I am pregnant.

When I just can't go and get all bloated like that, I use Dulcolax suppositories.  They usually work in less than half an hour.

1/4 of a cup of prune juice is wonderful for me. I hope you get this sorted out and feel better.

your pain meds are probably making you constipated. I was on Vicadin post op and it made me have rocks! Ouch!

Yeah, that's what I figured.  I am trying to avoid them now.  My stomach is a bit better but not much.

I feel your pain LadyTazz. I got severely constipated after my recent hernia repair. I was taking 2 stool softners with every vicodin. I got so constipated that I had to go to the doctor to get help. It was so painful and humiliating. Very humbling experience.
I would up the ante on stool softners with every vicodin and mirilax daily, that is what the ER doc said and it did keep things going after that.
They had me pick up some oral magnesium citrate solution (in enema isle) and they said if I take that it will clean me out guarenteed. They said it is what they have people take before a colonoscopy. I fortunatly was going by then so I did not have to take it but there is an idea.

I would get on taking something though if you have not already, I did the suppository thing before and it has worked well just be aware you may have some cramping, sweats and dizziness during it. Good luck to you.

Thanks for the advice.  I finally got to the point where I used an enema last night and some Milk of Magnesia and it worked so far.  I do have some magnesium citrate in case of emergency but I hope I don't have to use it.  I still have the bloating, though.  It seems I can't eat or drink anything, including water, without bloating.  I hope that gets better soon.
