Hi. I understand calcium citrate is the most absorbable and chewable or powder form is best for early post-ops.
I had a liquid form but it tastes like weak cough syrup so I'm going to try a powder form. UpCal D was recommended as virtually tasteless and it's a calcium citrate vit D powder.
All the best for a smooth recovery.

Calcium CITRATE, not carbonate or phosphate.
It does not have to be chewable if you can comfortable swallow the tablets, but calcium pills are usually pretty big. If you want chewable calcium citrate, you may have to order online, most stores don't carry it. Sometimes you can find it at Vitamin Shoppe or health food stores.
You need 1500-2000 mg a day. Read the label to see how much is a serving - a lot of times the label says something like 500 mg per serving but a serving is two pills, not one.

Calcium Citrate is the best and you need 1200 to 1500 mg per day. You new stomach can absorbe about 600 mg at a time. It is best to take chewable as it starts the digestion process in your mouth and makes it easier on your little pouch. I found this resorce Twin Labs Chewable Calcium Citrate 1000mg 60 wafers $10.99 from www.drugstore.com. Do not take it at the same time as you Iron tablet as they will fight for absorbtion in your intestines. Hope this helps.
