Calcium inhibits iron absorption from non-meat sources. Wait at least 2 hours before taking an iron supplement following a calcium supplement.

We can't take it with calcium  There is a study that shows that absorbion of even heme iron was decreased in presence of calcium, or tanns (coffee, black tea, red wine etc. ) google it. (it is on the net - the study)

You CAN take heme iron with calcium.  Calcium blocks the absorption of non-heme iron but not heme iron.

I am a little confused - you said you were taking heme but what you listed is ferrous fumerate but 6mg? what is live 600mg?

What brand of iron is this so I can look closer or do you have a link to the bottle ingredients?

They used to say we can take heme iron with calcium but this poster has shown that we can't, I am not sure what to believe,

I personally take the tender irons with C and they work great and much cheaper than heme

I have just done some searching on heme iron since my last post because the 6mg had me curious - that is a dose of heme iron but a half dose of the normal proferrin which is a tiny dose - the over the counter stuff bifera has only 6 mg but it also comes with 22mg of polysaccharide iron which is also a tiny dose - that usually comes as 150mg in prescriptions.  The other part that confuses me is that you dont usually take heme iron with vitamin C, - you take it with non-heme irons - which are all the other types.  I am not familiar with what live 600mg or betaine 100mg is either.

If you want to take heme - do yourself a favor and get the good stuff, get proferrin.  You need to break it in half and take away from calcium and with no vitamin C - also atleast 2 hours away from thyroid medication.  IT is pretty expensive, so you might want to try tender irons from vitalady.com they have the vitamin C in them and they work really well.
