Rum and other liquors...

If you are going to be drinking in public you might want to try it privately in your home first to see how you will react. You don't want to be embarrassed in front of your friends.

BTW...I drank tequila at 5 weeks out and barfed... Haven't tried it again.

I use Ocean Spray Diet CranGrape to mix with rum, on the rare ocassion I decide to have a drink. It hits the spot and I don't have to worry about dumping on the "mixer" because the stats are great on it.

I didn'tt even know wtf polenta was until it was brought up on this board, to be honest with you.  Never liked chips.  If I wanted a chip, I'd have one, though.  Having one or two chips isn't what gets people to 300+ pounds.  It's having a giant bag of them every other day along with a 600 calorie cheeseburger, half of it being fat, and some fries with an enormous sugar-loaded soda and calling that a "meal".

Nope, I haven't made up my mind.  If I had, I'd just go right ahead and do it instead of post about.  Done that before with other things.  Sometimes it went very well, a couple times it went bad.

My doctor doesn't say ****  The NUTS I have to deal with are the ones who give the advice.  They also both give conflicting advice.  One told me to buy Ex Strength Tums and have 2 or 3 a day.  The other said Tums suck and to use something else.  One said 500mcg of B12 a week sublingual, the other said 1000mcg daily.  W.T.F.  These are the two NUTS in the program, the ONLY two, and I have to deal with them.

I'm so happy for you that you've never broken a single rule or needed to ask a question on this board since your surgery.  It must feel wonderful being so perfect.  Unfortunately, I wasn't born that way, I screw up all the time.  What your post says to me is that I shouldn't have bothered to even ask, what a stupid question, and I'm such a pig for wanting some rum I might as well go out and stuff my face full of "Little Debbie" pastries.

I guess my response was triggered by your ****y response to Frances.  Have you done any research?  You have been off the table all of 2 months and your want rum.  You seem to realize what kind of foods will blow you up, but are willing to respond to a vet with a rude comment that it is a liquid and no one has given you a "rational reason" not to.  Its not our job.  You are not even up to speed on what kind of supplements you need but you want rum.  Tums do NOTHING for us...it is calcium carbonate, we need calcium citrate.  Instead of thing about getting a buzz., take some time and take notes.

You advised another NOOB to block me when she wanted to take me on about how polenta was ok for a fresh off the table patient because her vegan NON OP daughters liked creamy polenta and had no deficiencies.   She came out with guns a blazing about how she was right being 6 weeks post of and I was wrong being 3 yrs postop.

You being new to the sight and new to this lifestyle need to slow down.
We will offer you help if you we think you are listening to it instead of challenging the vets on their knowledge of what is right or wrong for someone 2 months out.

Most but not wait till 6 months to a year until alcohol is introduced.  Your insides have not fully mended.  You need to concentrate of your protein and vitamins and save the booze till later.

You said "Most but not wait till 6 months to a year until alcohol is introduced.  Your insides have not fully mended.  You need to concentrate of your protein and vitamins and save the booze till later."

Why not just say that in the first place?

And I advised a person NEW to the board (noob is an offensive term) to block you if she felt that you were being more hurtful than helpful.  I almost did, too.  I NEVER said she was right about the polenta, but she WAS right about you being RUDE, and you ARE.

I have done my own research and said screw the NUTS because they don't seem to know ****   They work in the SAME PROGRAM and they can't decide what advice they will be giving out to patients? I take calcium citrate now.  I take 1000mcg of B12 every other day.  I have my vitamin regimen down and have no problems with it.

So you're telling me my insides haven't fully mended and that a liquid is going to be more harmful to them than the chicken, steak, and turkey I've been told by my doctor and NUTS is ok since 3 weeks out?  Whatever, guess I'll just go get some "Little Debbie" cakes and **** since I'm such a pig for wanting a drink.

First off...I wasn't offensive to her....she chimed in on a direct response I made to a posted question.  She "begged to differ" with me..she should have just kept her uniformed, incorrect statement to a NOOB(which is not offensive, unless you are new to the whole computer world and don't understand the terminology).

So you're telling me my insides haven't fully mended and that a liquid is going to be more harmful to them than the chicken, steak, and turkey I've been told by my doctor and NUTS is ok since 3 weeks out?

You go right ahead...you drink the rum....since it is "just liquid" and let us know how you make out.  I am not going rounds with you...

In all actuality...your defensiveness of drinking rum at such and early stage sounds like you may have a problem and need to get in touch with some help.

I get defensive when I'm attacked.  You sound just like those bullies I dealt with in high school, and that touches a nerve with me.

The reason I keep pushing the issue is because I have questions.  I like to know the reason behind the rules.  Maybe it's the nurse in me.  If someone asks me two years from now if they can have a drink after WLS, I'd like to be able to tell them the answer and the reason

If it's only because of a risk of "transfer addiction" then I'd like to know.  If it's because of the sugar and it's going to cause dumping, then say so.  If it's because it slows the metabolism I'd want to know how often a person would have to drink for that to happen - twice a year, or twice a week?

Thank you, Chili, so much.  You've made me feel so uncomfortable here that it's unlikely I'll post another question again.  I wonder how many other people you've made feel this way?  Does it feel good?

shots are WAY harder post-op, i usually can't do a full one and need to do it in 2. having a straight shot that early out will likely burn... a lot. and not in your throat/chest like a normal shot, but in your pouch. it did that for a while for me, maybe it still does i rarely do shots. i don't drink rum so i can't help you with that and i had tequila maybe once post op.

i did find out this week that three olives flavored vodkas only have 2 carbs per serving, which made me happy since that's my drink of choice.

i'm not going to yell at you like others might. i had my first "drink" 2 months out. it was my 25th birthday and i wanted a little something. i had maybe 2 sips of my drink and i was over it. but i would proceed with caution.
