Hi Everyone!
Well, I had my surgery approved for Feb but switched jobs, so it's now May 29th!

I met with my surgeon who said I should start on meal replacement shakes, once a day, to start getting used to them.

Do you have any recommendations?  I know nothing about meal replacement shakes.

There are a zillion and one weight loss shakes out there and we all have different tastes, so what works for me might not work for you... but, the reason for my post is a suggestion... when you find one that works for you I would NOT reccommend "stocking up" on them until you find something that tastes good after the surgery. My taste buds drastically changed and I ended up giving away a load of protein drinks/mixes.

I couldn't handle the taste of any artificial sweetener except stevia. So, I bought the unflavored whey protein from GNC and add some vanilla extract and stevia to my taste... I blended that with a cup of skim milk and ice cubes.

But there are also premixed shakes - one of my favorite before surgery was Atkins and also Premier Nutrition.

The folks at Vitamin World and GNC were quite helpful as well. Good luck with the upcoming surgery.

I bought a variety of different shake powders--Chike, Unjury, Total Balance, Top Choice... they all tasted fine at first, and then three weeks out, I suddenly couldn't stomach them anymore. Gave them all away.

I've gone to Atkins shakes now. They're a little pricey (average $1 each if they're on sale, I've seen them as high as $7 for a 4-pack), and only 15g of protein instead of the ~25 I was getting with my protein powder, but they drink like a sweet milkshake and I love them.

Just google around, order samples, and see what you like.

pre-op I used Walmart generic Slim Fast. You can get a 12 pack for under $9. I liked the chocolate flavor the best. It has 13g of protein, which is adequate for pre-op, but not post-op. I lost 26 lbs pre-op. My husband, who did not have surgery, drinks them almost everyday along with sensible eating. He has lost 78 lbs.
