CNBC New Story, RNY & Cleveland Clinic Cardiology
I am sort of in that group. I was a little over 60 lbs overweight, but had type Ii diabetes. I have been insulin dependant for 3-4 years. I had my surgery on 2/27 and since then my blood sugars have been normal w/o any insulin or meds of any kind. It has been great!! No needles!! But I have to make the lifestyle changes permanent to keep it this way. Also, my insurance didn't pay for the surgery, but it is BC/BS of kansas & they dont pay for any weight loss surgery.
Congratulations on having this surgery even though it required you having to pay out-of-pocket. I was fully prepared to do the same in the event I was denied. Nothing was going to stop me except the inability to find a surgeon who would do it. My brother has type II diabetes and has had partial amputations on both feet. By the time I had my surgery I was close to 50 pounds heavier than he, and he is 6'1" or 6'2. I am only 5'9" and worried about diabetes. Based upon the way my health was deteriorating and how I was feeling, I knew it was around the corner for me too. I am so happy for you that your health issues are resolved. This will give so much hope to others.
