I confess
I am finally ready to admit that I am a true carb addict! All I want to eat while I wait for my surgery date is pasta, pasta, pasta, bread, bagels, pasta, pizza, pizza, pasta, and on and on!
I know i won't be able to eat this for a very long time and then in minimal amounts. I do not have a sweet tooth and can pass on desserts and sweets at any time, but oh the pasta!
Will I be able to overcome this?

I really wonder what the "addicting" property is? Has there been research on endorphins being released with refined white flour or semolina flour? Why is this comfort food? From when I was little, my comfort food was always macaroni and cheese out of a box! How much more processed can you get?
Are there additives addicting us? WTH?? I know that I have had friends that have given up carbs except for fruits and vegies and after a while they no longer want the pizza, pasta, bread stuff.
Oh I cannot wait!

I think what I've read is that the carbs increase the serotonin in the brain, which makes you feel good. But I think some of it is also what we happen to associate with certain foods. My grandmother used to make me toast with butter and honey on it when I was little. She was comforting and so I associated bread with being comforted.

Of course you can. :)
Pasta is my pitfall. I can't even eat it in small moderation because I can't stop once I get started. I've never had addictive issues with food in general, but post op, I have to face the music--pasta is it for me. Just can't do it.
The GOOD news is that starchy carbs are scientifically known to be addictive. So once you stop eating them, it will get easier to avoid them. The cravings WILL eventually die, and you can take back control. :)

I find that it is much easier to stick to a new eating plan after surgery. I'm not so starved that I can control myself better. If I eat my protein first - I really only have room for one or 2 bits of starch (e months out). Before now (months 0-7) I really didn't have any room for starches. Then I was FULL so I didn't even want to eat the starches. I have found that this surgery has helped me be in control.

I was the same way! Just add white rice to my list. But I also had a sweet tooth! Snicker, snickers, skittles, skittles, Haagen Dazz., Cuban bread, Cuban bread, girl scout cookies (especially Somoas), Publix cake, coconut cake, cheese cake, red velvet cake, potato chips, doritos, Funyons...................Now thank God for the surgery. I don't crave any of it!
I have that weakness too, also had a couple "last suppers" but after surgery, I didn't want it so much, you get full" so fast, your stomache is so delicate for awhile, things aren't the same, if you eat too fast or too much, it comes back up, and that doesn't feel good...nothing wrong with pasta, just eat whole wheat, sooo much better, I know you'll overcome it, try to get into a hobby, even reading alot of books, helps to pass the extra time you'll have from not eating so much...I wish you the best!
