BIG surprise at 5 1/2 months out!
I have always had really bad reactions to hormonal birth control, so I wasn't on any kind of hormonal birth control. I had gotten fitted for a diaphragm, but with the weight loss it, like my jeans, no longer fit after about a month. DH and I were piecing together other methods in hopes of preventing as long as we could. We were using the withdraw method, spermicide, and I was trying my hand at natural family planning. Well, combine a night of passion where I forgot the spermicide and he didn't pull out in time, and a computer program that lead me to believe I had already ovulated and therefore didn't need to get the morning after pill and here I am. (I'm an open book, so I hope none of this is TMI for you. lol)
Thanks for the congratulations and well wishes, though. Although I've wanted another child for a couple of years now, it is super early after my surgery to be going through this. But it's obviously meant to be. I also know I've got the absolute best medical team to guide me through this, too.

You probably already know this but there is a pregnancy group here on OH.
Congratulations! My son and his wife are expecting, too.

Congrats! Trust me, it will all work out fine. I found out about my little surprise just TWO months after I had my surgery. I was super worried that I had ruined my chance at losing weight. Well, how many women can say they lost 100 pounds during their pregnancy? I can!!
Just be sure to get in all you prenatals and other vitamins. My perinatologist recommended uping my protein to 100 per day which was tough. But I managed. My son is now 6 months old and I am very happy he decided to pop into our lifes.
Best wishes and hang in there!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. It gives me a lot of hope and comfort! I usually manage to get anywhere between 80-100g of protein daily. My biggest thing is increasing my water. I've stepped up my vitamin game. It has been recommended that I take at least 2000mg of calcium a day which would mean adding one more chewable to my routine and I've already incorporated my prenatal.
