Stomach binder

Hi, I am wondering how long you wore the stomach binder after your surgery?  I had my RNY on 3/26, and I have only taken it off to wa**** and while I shower.  I feel much better with the binder on.  Is this normal?  Should I be weaning myself off of the binder?
Thank you!

I wore mine for weeks and weeks.  I actually liked the support.  When I went back for my 1 month post op, my doctor told me I no longer needed it...he kind of smiled.  I told him I liked the support it gave me.  I think I was hesitant that once it came off and the weight of my abdomen once again pulled downward I would be uncomfortable.  I wore it more at night, turning in bed was always hard with so much weight being carried in my abdomen.  I finally had to just chunk my security blanket.  I can't remember how long I was told to wear it according to doctor's orders.

Thank you Dasie!  That is very helpful.  I also really like the support.  Right now I can not imagine not wearing the binder, especially at night.

I am still pre op so I can't answer for this surgery but I know for my tummy tuck I wore it a month longer than the doctor said just because I slept better and felt better with it. I think I wore it for 3 months. I say if it feels good wear it. Or ask your doctor's office.

I think everyone is different.  I personally did not like wearing it.  I wore it the first week post-op while I still had my drain in.  I could pin the drain inside and flatten it out so others could not see it under my clothes.  At home I took it off most of the time.

It won't hurt you to wear it if you prefer it.  A co-worker had the surgery and he wore his for a while.  He had back issues and I think he liked the back support.  It probably also depends if you had open or lap surgery.  I can see the people that had open surgery would have a bigger need.

my doc said I could wear mine as long as I wanted and after a TT several years ago I wore one for over 3 months , I loved the support.
I will find out next week if i like it this time :)
