Sorry my post about eating while waiting for a date brought out some bones of contention. No my dietician did not tell me what to eat or not to eat. I have to do a 10 day clear liquid diet before surgery. I have preop classes on 4/3 and 4/10 that are 4 hrs each. I assume I will learn lots then. I probably have been just regular eating for the last month as \opposed to watching what I ate and feeling guilty for eating anything that wasn't green or a salad. In fact with my "regular" eating over the last month I have lost 2 lbs. Go figure! So, I will continue to regular eat for another week and then do a modified until the clear liquids and shrink my liver.

I love you guys!

I must have missed the original post, but my NUT didn't give me any dietary restriction--just eat sensibly and to start implementing the changes that I'll need for after surgery. You know, not eating and drinking at the same time, small bites, etc. As of my last appointment with the surgeon's NP, I was already down 4lbs. Whenever I get a surgery date, I'll be on shakes one to two weeks before--it's dependent on how much I lose before then.

Not sure why anyone would be upset with what your surgeon recommends for you--everyone does things a little different.

I missed it too, so I don't know what comments might have been made. My surgeon's rule was you could not GAIN weight during the process and you had to do a 2 week low carb diet to shrink your liver the last 2 weeks before surgery. If you gained weight, your surgery would be canceled! Needless to say, the fear of gaining kept me from indulging in the "last supper" syndrome!

I'm sure you'll be fine following the program YOUR doc recommends. They can be so different. Best of luck to you on your journey!

I wish some people's responses didn't sound so scathing and judgemental. I don't have a problem with people disagreeing but I think it is important to disagree in a respectful manner. Otherwise you discourage some people from posting questions for fear of being slammed.

It seems that tensions are running high on the board lately. It is very off-putting.

I do not mean to inflame anyone. Please don't misunderstand.

I just wanted to put it out there how I feel about this, and I do not feel the need to defend my opinion as it is just that: my opinion.

Again, I'm not just talking about this OP's last thread, but the board in general lately. I don't think we should necessarily sugarcoat when we disagree with someone or think they are headed down a wrong path. State your opinion but be mindful of your attitude and respect the person you are responding to. They are more likely to heed advice that is presented logically rather than emotionally, especially if that emotion is negative.

Can't we all just get along?

I agree...it's been a bit scathing as of late. Not sure if everyone is having their periods at the same time or what.

Fyi I was 1lb shy of the 200% my ins required to be approved for surgery before my Pcp started me on metformin and I lost 13lbs. So thats a 14lb diff I was told I was lacking. Let's just say I was hinted at to enjoy my holidays. I did the bucket list just as you did and sticking to the plan post op hasn't been that difficult.

So just letting you know you're not necessarily sabotaging yourself :P.

That's good!  Your liquid diet will be so much easier if you start modifing earlier!
