Help????
I'm not sure where your pain is from your description, but I had gosh-awful
pains the minute anything hit my stomach, from day 1. It was smack in the
middle of my belly, almost behind my belly button. I would call it similar to
bad intestinal pains......the minute I swallowed ANYTHING. Well, it went on
and on but got better with every passing week. They are all but gone now.
It happened with water, warm tea....anything. Since all was going well the doc
wasn't too concerned. I'm over a year out and all is well.
I can't say that yours are the same as mine, but I hope things get better
for you. Good luck!

I had the exact same thing you did. I even tried different temps on my liquid. Nothing helped. Pureed foods did not hurt as much as the liquids. I would be doubled over in pain even after one tiny sip. I saw my surgeon yesterday and this is what he prescribed: Carafate liquid and pantoprazole (protonix). Yesterday was the first day taking the medications and they worked long enough for me to drink. My surgeon said to allow at least three days for the medicines to really start to work. He said my pouch was irritated. I had Gerd before surgery. He also said dont follow the instructions on the Carafate which says to take every 6 hours. He said to take it 30 minutes before each meal. I really hope this helps. By the way I am almost two weeks out. I really hope this helps you. Mention it to your doctor.

Congrats on you surgery!!!!! Finally someone who is going through what I'm going through. I saw my doctor on Thursday and I was given the Carfate liquid. I have to take it before each meal. I'm still having issues but then again it's only been 2 days. Is the pantoprazol (protonix) a different prescription than the Carafate? I'll be two weeks out on Monday.

Yes, the pantoprazol (protonix) is a different RX from the Carafate. I was taking Pepcid after surgery but the pantoprazol (protonix) is stronger. You should call your doctor on Monday and ask if you can have that one too. Today is my second day taking the meds and I still have pain while drinking but it is nowhere as bad as before. I am hoping by Monday I will be pain free.

I went and saw my doctor on Wednesday. He thinks that I may be experiencing what most people who are taking pain meds don't feel, because I am not taking pain meds. He thinks the pain comes from my pouch being swollen and still sore from the surgery so I feel the pain when most people who are on pain medications can't feel the pain. He suggesed I take Tylenol since I refuse to take the oxycodone. It's funny he was right. I took the Tylenol and it works. My pain when I sip or take on any liquids is a bare minimum. Thanks for your help!

I am so happy for you. I am still having pain. My doctor told me to take the pantoprazol twice a day and if I dont feel better by tomorrow to go to the ER where I had my surgery. I will keep you updated.
