I am supposed to eat a tiny TINY little bit of soup in 30 minutes! How in the world? I try but end up finishing in like 5 minutes. How do y'all do it?

I do a no-no.  I read or work a puzzle when I'm home alone.  So sometimes I'd string it out to 30 mins.  When I eat out, I'm carrying on a conversation so it's a little easier.            Best wishes

Yeah maybe I could just play games on my iPad while I'm eating and like take 2 sips every time I die on the game. Great idea! Thanks.

You must be a fairly new post op.  Don't worry about taking 30 minutes to eat the small amount you are able to eat right now.  Just take it slowly anyways; don't gulp it down as you may experience pain and discomfort.  It may be a little amount but your stomach is about the size of a golf ball, that's all it will hold.

As you progress to larger meals, and you will, you will take longer to eat.  One reason to take longer to eat is so you can chew, chew, chew.  This helps your body feel fuller because you need the chewing action to create a full sensation.  Also, it takes about 20 minutes for the message to get to the brain.  If you take considerably shorter times to eat, you may overeat before you get this signal.  That can cause weight gain, dumping, etc.  I had this worded better, but lost part of this post - twice!!!

Don't attempt to eat too large amounts; take it slowly and don't overdo it.  At just over two years out, I still only eat between 1/2 - 3/4 cup per meal and don't eat 'white stuff' like bread, pasta, etc.  I choose to fill my stomach with nutritional foods like meats, beans, cheese, veg., etc and avoid the unnecessary white fillers.

And try not to drink for at least 30 minutes after a meal so that your stomach can digest the material in it and retain it for a longer time, resulting in a fuller feeling.  You don't want to wash out the stomach contents too soon; it will make you hungrier.......and your body won't have time to properly break down the stomach contents.

Momjan is right. IT's not so imprtant to drag your thin, small quantity liquids out over 1/2 hour. This is more for when you proceed to more solid and larger meals. Great advice, Momjan.
