Slow Weight Loss
Last week during my weigh in at the surgeon's office I thought the nurse told me that I'd lost 9 lbs over my first week since surgery. In truth it was only 5 lbs. I got on the scale this morning and discovered that I'd lost another 5 lbs. I think I got my hopes up too high after reading about all the dramatic week to week weight loss that so many other patients have enjoyed. I guess I wanted to lose 10-15 lbs a week as well but for whatever reason my weight is coming off much more slowly. Maybe its because I'm unable to be very active right now, I don't know. I'm trying not to let it discourage me but I can't help being a bit fearful anyway. It's coming off so slowly that I'm afraid it will stop all together despite my adherence to the eating plan my surgeon gave me. I'm trying to focus on the benefits of slower weight loss but the truth is, I just want it GONE!
I guess I'll just keep plugging along and do the best I can. Today I finally get to start soft foods. I meant to have a scambled egg for breakfast but out of habit I made myself a protein drink instead. Guess the egg will wait until lunch time.
Hope everyone is enjoying a great start to their day!

I totally get how you are feeling...but you need to set some realistic expectations. You are not even a month out, what did you expect to lose?
5 pounds a week is AMAZING. 5 pounds a month is good! When you get to 10 to 12 mounths out you might not see any WL at all!
This is a process more like stair steps then a steep slope. It will come off, just not all in one month.
Hang in there

Hi Trianni,
You're only 2 weeks out from your surgery date. It's not uncommon to retain fluid from the surgery at this time, and even gain. If you do a search on stalls, you'll find hundreds (maybe thousands) of posts on the dreaded 3rd week stall, so get comfortable because the ride has just begun. If you just look at dates and numbers, a lot of people post their pre-op weight loss along with their post-op, and that can be what is the result of a 6 month preliminary effort. It is NOT the norm to lose 10-15 lbs a week. During my 1st semester in college I was so anxious because I was always the last one out of the room during exams. I'd see people get up with such a look of confidence, and leave way before me. I was certain I was the stupidest person there. Guess what, when all was said and done I had the top grades in all my classes. It was a great precursor to this journey in which I needed to focus on what I am doing just as you need to do, or you'll make yourself crazy at this rate. Love yourself enough to be patient with yourself.

Well said!!!!!!!
Trianni - just keep a journal for a while to ensure you are staying on track and learning your new food plan - ie number of proteins, sugars, fats per day, and following any other rules you were taught. In addition, read lots of different sites for information, find new recipes, etc. and you will do fine!!!

I'm a slow looser too. But I've noticed my clothes are fitting a lot looser and had to find the old clothes I had stored away. I'm almost 2 sizes smaller. I do track my inches changing as that can help me when I start feeling bad about the slow loosing.
Yes, on my ticker I put down my starting weight and I lost some of that pre-surgery, also came back from surgery HEAVIER than I went in, so I had to reloose weight. That was a huge disapointment. I did loose 22 pounds from day of surgery weight to post op visit, (4-5 weeks) which is what my surgeon said to expect - anywhere from 15 to 30 punds the first month.
Saw my DR last week and she said I will keep loosing and not to worry.
It's hard seeing all these huge weight loss numbers and not seeing the same in me, but I think it also has something to do with what your starting weight is.
I track my foods at myfitnesspal.com and exercise as much as I can.
Just follow your plan and it'll work!
