Tough Love: What You Really Need to Do to Lose Weight

Thanks for the info....I'm going to read it, however, I found the article very helpful reminders.

What I loved about the one I read this morning is in just a few steps it reaffirmed the tips my NUT and surgeon gave me minus the obvious that RNY'ers need to follow as well.  I'm thinking about putting these on a card and taping them to my desk so I can glance at them.

It was nice to see an article that literally reiterated things my clinic and surgeon advocate /told me to do.  I know most will take away from this article the points that can be very beneficial...

use smaller plates, use mindful eating, exercise, don't drink sugary drinks....  Tips...just tips...

Yep. Right you are. I think that was my original point. In the long term how we behave has a lot to do with our success rate, just like anybody else looking to lose weight.

I love tips that sort of trick your mind into thinking it is not being deprived of anything (like the small plates thing. I love that.)

It just makes it a bit easier to live this life.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks Nik...I recently had to return to using small plates again.  My portions had become larger than my daughter's and husband's at time.  I was such a volume eater.  It amazes me how differently I feel about my meal when using a smaller plate and there is not so much empty space around it.

You know another thing that helps. My family thinks I am crazy but I will portion out my food. cover it and set it aside then clean the kitchen before I eat. I put all the food in the fridge. THEN I reheat my plate and eat. I find I don't go back for seconds if I have to haul it out of the fridge. (Using laziness to my advantage...winning!)

That is an excellent idea.  When the food remains out it is so easy to go back for seconds.

I think being compliant with  the tool of RNY is the key to success for me (and granted I'm only 3 months out) but it is also a game changer for me in the sense that if I overeat now, I throw up. Before surgery I just regretted it and didn't lose or gained. If I eat the wrong foods now, I will dump or barf them up. I almost never get hungry. Before RNY, nothing i did helped long term. I lost weight but gained it back because I was hungry. I know my hunger will return after the honeymoon period but according to my doctor it won't be with the vengeance I  had before. So I think RNY requires lifestyle changes but it also is a game changer for me at least.
