Ice chips for a few hours and than water and gatoraid. I didn't have a problem with drinking at all. I didn't even have to take sips really. Water went down fine!
RNY on 01/18/12
I had surgery at 7:30 am on Tuesday, 11/17/09. I did not have my leak test until Wednesday afternoon around noon. I was realeased to drink around 1 pm. That meant I had no liquid enter my body from 10 pm Monday night until around 1 pm Wednesday afternoon. Be prepared for that. I was warned, but it was tough.
Once I was cleared to drink, I was given a 2 oz little cup. The instructions were:
drink 2 oz each hour for 2 hours. In other words I had 1 hour to get the first 2 ozs water down then repeat for another hour.
drink 2oz each 30 mins for 2 hours
drink 2oz each 15 min for 2 hours
then...sip, sip, sip
You will also have IVs.... and they will instruct you, and your instructions might be different. This gives you an idea of how it might work for you.
