Next Thursday at noon I'll be having my gallbladder removed. I'm hoping to go home the same day..just over 48 hours after the surgery is my daughters annual school auction..I've invested a LOT of time and money into the auction so far and plan on attending..I'm curious to see how others felt 48 hours after you had your gallbladder removed.

I understand everyone is different and that results my vary. Thanks so much!

I felt fine the next morning, not quite 24 hours after my gall bladder surgery.  I was amazed.  But everyone is different.

I was very, very ill when I had to have my gallbladder out emergently. It was about six months prior to my RNY. I was in the hospital for several days and didn't work for about a week and half after I was released. I felt bad overall for about 6 weeks after my surgery. I was also smoking nearly a pack at day at that time.

Conversely, post RNY, I perked right up. I think that was due to me being in better physical shape overall from my six months worth of dieting and exercising, having not smoked for six months, etcetera.

Good luck!

I just had mine removed this pass Thursday and I must say that I'm still exhausted.  I was only in the hospital overnight but that was because my procedure was so late in the day.  The first 2 days I was slightly sluggish because of the pain meds.  Everyone responds differently so hopefully you will be just fine, good luck!
Loving my new life and all the wonderful things that go with it, on to my next journey!  99 pounds down and about 10 more to go but it has been a heck of a ride...

I had my gallbladder out 2 days ago - outpatient procedure. I dont think I would be up to it today - still having a lot of pain from the gas in my shoulders, back, and ribs. Also feeling a little weak and dizzy. I do feel much better everyday, but still feel like I just had surgery. The incisions are OK and not too much pain there. Everyone is different but I had planned to go to a seminar tomorrow and I am so glad I cancelled it - not up to it yet. Good luck!

My recovery took a two full weeks. I barely made it thru Thanksgiving dinner with the inlaws and that was six days post op. But take heart: from what I've noticed, those who don't have inflammation of the gallbladder or infection have a much quicker recovery time.

My surgeon said my gallbladder was very inflammed and hard to get to, so that is why my recovery took longer.

Lanagirl just posted about her recovery a couple of days ago. Hopefully some other post ops will chime in too.

One last thing. My gallbladder started failing six weeks after RNY, so I probably wasn't fully recovered from that and also probably why my recover time was longer.

Hi there, I agree with the poster who said it may depend on if your gall bladder is infected or not. I had mine out 9 days ago and I am feeling about 75% back to normal. Yesterday was the first time since I got sick a month ago with an acute gall bladder infection that I didn't sleep during the day. I think my recovery has been slow because my immune system was compromised by the infection. Also my surgeon said he had to dig around and work harder to get it out so I was much more sore than an average patient. I was in more pain than after my RNY. If you are having it out and it isn't infected you should heal better but 48 hours after any surgery may be pushing it. For me I need 3 days to recover from any anesthesia. Good luck to you!
