Strange comment from a friend
Today I told a friend/co-worker about my surgery and her comment was that she was happy for me and would be supportive, but then she stated "you know most people who have that surgery, once they lose their weight they become meth adicts to stay skinny" I was like whatever, I do not believe that in a bit.
WTH?!?! I think she must be on meth!! I have never heard that before and believe me I have heard some really foolish things. But on the other hand read a little into what she is trying to say. I think she maybe thinking of "transfer addictions", although meth was an awful example.
What I will say is sometimes it is hard to find balance with your new life. Sometimes you will trade one addiction for another, i.e. food gets traded for shopping, exercising, drinking, sex or drugs (meth could be one). Since I have lost weight I have transferred my addiction for food to shopping - and I don't like cheap stuff either. I will buy jewels, clothes, shoes, makeup or whatever.
Please don't be discouraged by the comments, but still keep an open eye to some things that could possibly have some validity. I can clearly remember people telling me that you can eat "around" your surgery and gain weight, I thought that was a crock of horse hockey. Well at 2 years out I know all the ways to successfully eat 10 cookies in a day and not get sick! Just because you don't eat them all at one time doesn't make eating 10 cookies in 24 hours ok. I have recently lost another 15 lbs and 10 of which was weight gained due to my own carelessness and laziness with my diet and exercise regime.
Keep us posted on your progress and remember after surgery to stay away from METH!!!
