I had been banded for 3 yrs so when my band was deflated in October, I ate some of the foods that I didn't eat while banded like pizza, ribs, bread, pad thai, rice, etc. I honestly thought I'd enjoy the foods more than I did. Then two weeks prior was the preop diet. I gained 25 pounds after the band deflation over the holidays since I knew I was getting the rny in February. Looking back I wish I had not eaten to gain the wt (1) I didn't really enjoy it (2) It was 25 pounds to pull back off (3) The extra wt hurt

I cut out caffeine and didn't dirnk any alcohol. Those were easy things for me.
About a month before surgery though, I told my husband that I was going to eat whatever I wanted and I asked him not to make any comments. He didin't.
I ate everywhere and everything I wanted to.
I'm glad I did, kind of like getting it out of my system, also a kind of saying "goodbye".
The evening before I started optifast we went out to a beautiful restaurant and spent the evening talking about what was to come and had a beautiful relaxing evening. It was wonderful.

Quite honestly I had to do the 6 months of supervised diet for my insurance and ended up gaining a few pounds during that time. Don't beat yourself up about it. Pre-op success in no way determines how you will do post op. I got to goal and developed the habits I needed post-op. You can too!!
