YEah... especially this time of year, try some of the fruit flavoured ones...ie. mango tango, fuzzy navel, etc.  They are lighter and when I get a bit bored of one of the several jars I keep on hand, I add a bit of a Crystal Lite package to it to change up the flavour...So maybe mango tango, pomegranate cherry mixture..whatever!

Bridie, look for a post by Cleopatra_Nik, or google Bariatric Foodie. She has a HUGE list of things to do to make shakes taste better, and most of them were (by my surgeon's practice, anyway) ok to do on the pre-op diet.

As she says, "There's no reason to drink a nasty-ass shake." And she's right!

You are ahead of me so relax!!  I get my date tomorrow eeeek!

Try drinking the protein shakes through a sports cup or any cup with a lid and straw and see if you can get them down better. I find they go down far easier if I can't smell them. I'm not on preop yet but have drank them in the past as a "diet".

you can do this!!

I really felt overwhelmed too. There is a big, big, BIG difference (at least, there was for me) between pre-op and post-op. Pre-op, you're nervous and anxious and trying to do everything perfectly and get it all organized and probably still not understanding the details of what you're going to need after the surgery.

Post op, you just kinda do whatcha gotta do and let your body take the lead. It sort of falls into place.

I gathered samples like crazy while waiting on my surgery date. I ended up with about 15 different sample packets. None of them were too bad. But after surgery, my tastes changed and I still can't stomach whey protein powder. I gave all mine away. I have some Syntrax Nectar I need to try because everyone tells me it's much better, but I haven't made a shake yet. I haven't had problems getting my protein from food, although I do supplement with bars and Atkins shakes.

Anyway, all this babble is simply to say--don't sweat it.
Gather your samples, try everything.
And then after surgery, just drink whatever tastes best and whatever your stomach will handle. It'll all seem a lot clearer once your surgery's done and you can quit worrying about everything else.
