Internal Hernia

~ IF ~ you have had one -- how did you know???
I have had right upper quadrant pain for 3+ months. The pain comes and goes... It's not a stabbing pain - I don't feel like I'm dying - but it's very irritating. I can not figure out any triggers. I seem to notice it more when I am sitting as opposed to up and moving and walking.
I have had - an ULTRA SOUND - CT - SMALL BOWEL FOLLOW THROUGH (barium swallow) ---- ALLL have come back NORMAL! Other than saying I'm full of poop - literally. But nothing that has shown why I have the pain.
My doc emailed today - with a suggestion of "exploratory" surgery for possible internal hernia.... Grrrr... Would rather be sure first... Exploratory does NOT sound fun to me.

Advise?? Anyone??

Thanks
~Jamie~

I had an internal hernia. The pain did come and go very randomly. Felt a lot like very bad gas. Sometimes didn't last too long, other times lasted nearly a whole day.
I had the exploratory lap and had it repaired.
Unfortunately, there is no other way to diagnose internal hernias until they develop into a bowel obstruction.
Take your doc's advice, the lap surgery is not that bad..but an internal hernia can turn deadly.
How much weight have you lost? Internal hernias can occur anytime but seem to be more common when you have had a pretty significant weight loss. (Mine started when I was right at about 100lbs down) That is because the gut shifts as you lose weight.

Thanks Janet - ya - I have lost 120#, so I was starting to think it was from the shift internally.
Thanks for the reply.

 HI
I had pain for months and sort of ignored it.  After all the tests that came back negative you feel like maybe you are crazy with your pain.  But you are not,  The exploatory laproscopy was amazing and saved my life.  He found a Peterson's hernia  he repaired and a spot where by bowel had adhesed together.  I am also getting a colonoscopy because of some other suspicious stuff that he saw.  I know the surgery seems scary.  But just let him do it to try and figure out what is wrong.  Not all the fancy tests can tell us exactly whats wrong with our unusual systems.  Take Care and keep in touch.
