Nutrimirror, regain and logging food

I have not been one who has used online sites for logging food, etc.  Since having surgery, I kept  a running tally mentally each day.  While I did join http://nutrimirror.com/  I never developed the discipline of daily food logging/journeying.  Well that changed yesterday.  After bouncing 11 pounds, actually 12 once I looked at my weight history, I am having to reign in the way I eat and approach food.  All things in moderation does not work for me...never has.  I know/knew that and should have never allowed myself to veer from what I know works for me.

There are many good sites out there, I thought I'd post this link in the event there are those who are not familiar with the site.  I learned about it from another patient on OH.  It is not one of the more popular sites mentioned, but it offers one more option.

For those in the losing stage....lose as much as you can as fast as you can.  The lower you go the more leeway you have if bounce bac****urs.  Oh how I wish I had taken that advice when I read it here while I was in the losing stage.  While things are rapidly changing and the weight loss seems effortless we tend to think "that won't happen to me!"  I thought that, and it has happened to me.

I struggled for a long time with the idea of eating certain things in moderation.  Some things I do fine with in moderation but some I cannot do in moderation.  Like Cheezits.  Seriously, how are you supposed to eat just a few of those?!

I know...I wish I could eat things in moderation.  I believe that  is the best all around way to live - allowing ourselves to enjoy food... all food.  I have not developed that discipline yet.  If there is a bag of cookies on the table, I will eat them until they are all gone.  Last week I wanted a milk shake...I do not even live ice cream...so one shake turned into 2 days in a row ontop of he Mexican food 2 days in a row on the same days I drank the shakes.  Little wonder I bounced up to my highest weight in 18 months.  That was the reality check I needed.

I use http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ and it is great. I am religious about posting every little thing I put in my mouth no matter what. I have not had surgery yet, will next Wednesday, but both my wife, who is thin, and myself have found this page to be of great help. It is amazing just how many foods are already listed for you. It is very easy just put the name of anything you are eating in the search field under food and you will see many items and you can pick the exact one you are eating. You can set up a calorie limit and track how you are doing each day. When problems come up you can go back and see where you may have made a mistake. You can also print out a report and take it with you if you have a visit with your doctor or NUT to review your progress. The best thing is that is a free tool that can keep you on the straight and narrow path to goals. I started at 307lbs the first of March and just using this web page as a guide I am down to 272 last week and expect to loose another 3 or 4 pounds before my surgery date. I really believe in logging what you eat. I put the items in the log BEFORE I make them and I am always amazed that sometimes, what I think is low calorie is really not, and I change what I was going to eat. Also when you do have something you should not have had or too much of something, you feel guilty having to put it in the log and get a little reinforcement that you will not do that again. At least I do. Try it I bet you will love it, it takes maybe a minute to enter each meal, you can take that much time to help keep yourself on goal. I know you have been successful and look great.

Thanks...I know that is one of the most popular.  I need to revisit it again.

Congratulations on your surgery Wednesday.  With your good habits...you will have great success.

I look forward to reading about your recovery, and thank you for the input.
