I'm an animal person too!  I have three dogs that run my life - but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Brice - a 7 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi I got at 10 weeks of age.  He's absolutely a monster and always causing trouble.

Brody - 3 year old mastiff.  Brody is my protector and my best buddy.  Sometimes I think he thinks that he's my man.  Brody sleeps with me and is always sitting next to me.  A little difficult when he's 130 lbs!  I rescued Brody from a bad shelter at 4 months old

Sheba - 7 year old mastiff.  Sheba is my mistake.  I fostered her through the mastiff rescue and when I got her she was in really rough shape.  She had been a puppy bill breeder dog and had no muscle mass and had trouble moving around.  By the time I got her healthy (6 months) and put on about 30 lbs of muscle she was so bonded to Brody that I couldn't adopt her out.  She's been a bit of an adventure - breast cancer, last month she ate 2 oz of rat poisen, she had cysts.  But she's so very thankful.

I love mastiffs!  My neighbor has 4 mastiffs, the biggest male is 240lbs!

My Lab is a gentle sweet goof.... and yet still protective. He has proven 2x that he will watch over me.
The most recent was when I was camping in October. There was a big bonfire in the campground so I couldn't sleep. After midnight I was getting a bottle of water from the ice chest in my truck and Rio was at the woodline growling, showing his teeth, hackles up - and I hear a quivering man's voice saying "eeeeasy boy, it's ok boy".  I called Rio off, praised him and the guy apologized, said he had to "excuse himself" from the bonfire for a minute.  I bet he did more than he planned on when that 110lb dog came after him lol

My guy's name is Draco (after the dragon in Dragonheart).

He's a 6 1/2 year old, 60 lb sheperd/hound mix, with what I consider to be the most annoying traits of both breeds... the intensity and protective nature of a german shepperd, mixed with the never give up hunting instinct of a hound.  He has 2 distinct barks, which is super funny.  Sometimes when he barks he sounds like a big german shepperd, and it can actually be very intimidating for people that come to my house, but when he's on the chase, he has a half bark/half howel like a hound.  It's fun to see people's reactions when they hear him playing with other dogs in the field behind the sub division I live in.

I got Draco at 10 weeks old. Unfortunately he had already been abused by a little girl.  It's really sad... the little girl was only 4 or 5 years old.  She would tie her skipping rope around the puppies necks and drag them around, pretending to walk them on a leash.  When the puppies wouldn't cooperate, she would hit them and scream.  Draco will be 7 in July, and he still goes on high alert and growels when he sees a little girl.

He's afraid of noises... but not all noises.  He doesn't react at all to sirens, thunder, car alarms, motorcycles or fireworks.  He will knock you on your ass trying to hide from the creaking noise the sliding closet doors make, or the sound of the refridgerator turning on, or the sound of a sneeze.

He's a strange nurotic dog, but I would be lost without him.

I guess you could say he picked me.

I actually went to the place to pick up a different puppy from the same litter.  It looked like a rottweiler, and at 10 weeks old was twice the size of all the other puppies in the litter.   The place where I got him was a little over an hour from where I live. The women knew I was coming for the 'rotti' puppy, but she gave it away to someone else before I arrived.  I was very upset and arguing with her about the fact that she knew I was on my way to get the puppy and had given it away.  Draco came over to me, laid down and fell asleep with his head on my foot.  I checked to make sure the puppy was male, and took him home.

Well right now I only have one pet. A black cat named Niobe (Nye-o-bee). She came to us by way of her mama who USED to belong to my best friend.

Long story short: my best friend, her husband and their two kids lived with us about a year (in a two bedroom house with me and both divas!). They had a cat named Missy. Well one day Missy went outside and wouldn't come back (with all those folks living in the house I can't really blame her).

Anyway for months we saw neither hide nor hair of Missy until one day she came scratching at our back door. We open the door and she has a giant fuzz ball in her mouth. She drops it and leaves. Five minutes later, she returns with a second fuzz ball. Then - I kid you not - she nods at us and walks away.

Well the gray fuzz ball came to be called Egypt and the black one Niobe. We actually wanted to keep Egypt when they moved, but they won the coin toss, so we kept Niobe (she isn't the most social cat all the time). That was five years ago.

Niobe is...hmmm...how to describe her. She's a trip is what she is. Interestingly she has very close, yet very separate, relationships with all three of us. I spend most of my time with her in the morning (which I call "tummy time" because she hops on my tummy and purrs for me). Every morning, without fail, if I'm not up by 6:30 she comes meowing and then I turn over and we have our few minuts.

For my oldest daughter she actually sleeps with her and they are bestest buddies. My oldest likes to lord over the cat though. Sometimes Niobe has to remind her who does what in the house (usually by way of a strategically placed dead mouse).

My youngest and Niobe tend to bond while she watches tv. Niobe seems to like to approach people when they are distracted and demand attention.

Then there are priceless moments, like this morning when we found her on a very high shelf in the kitchen!

Soon we'll have a Bassett puppy. Provided there is a girl, we are going to take the girl and call her "Nana the puppy" (after my mom, who is the mama-dog). If it's a boy we'll name him Ricki (her name was Rikki).

I love reading about everyone's fur babies!  I have two cats and a dog. Our 14 yr old cat, Buttons, is grey. When I was in high school my mom was in the garage and heard meowing.  She found the tiniest grey furball. We named her angel at first because she was so sweet. When my mom found her she was missing her lower lip. The vet put a wire with a button through her jaw in hopes the skin would heal properly. Unfortunately it didn't work, but it hasn't bothered her. When my parents decided to move to WA my mom said she was getting rid of her cats. I insisted on taking Buttons. She's so sweet everyone loves her. She sleeps next to my face at night. Loki is our 2 yr old black cat. He  snuggles with me at night if I'm sitting on the couch. He's such a great cat. My daughter adores Loki. And then we come to our 1 yr old German Shepherd, Kahlua. She is a great dog. The dogs we had before were not good with kids so we wanted a dog with a great personality. The breeder said she would lay on the floor while my kids ran circles around her and it wouldn't bother her. Well, that's exactly what she does.  She's still a puppy so she loves to play with them too, but their craziness doesn't bother her. She is a fantastic dog and I love her so much.  She lays on my feet on the. Ouch to keep me warm and if I go to bed before my husband then Kahlua and I have rub down snuggle time. I have always loved animals and grew up with lots of pets, but I've slowed down. If we ever own our own place in the Country I want goats, we had them growing up. But for now my human and fur babies are all I can handle.
