Cold feet
Breathe, Breathe, Breathe. Here I sit on Friday night sipping my protein drink before bed. Normally on a Friday night I would have a few glasses of wine and probably share pizza with my husband. Will I ever have that again? How do I stop this wanting which is assoicated with such happiness. I really am missing this tonight.
Tell me will I be able to sip wine, and eat a little pizza evenutually?

Mostly likely. But you may not be drinking a few glasses of wine. Maybe one glass, and one slice of pizza. I have both pizza and wine on occasion.
Until then, what could you and your husband do instead to make Friday nights special? I can think of a few things that would be at least as enjoyable as pizza and wine. Maybe more so.

Well... you don't gotta wait 'til then.

I'm happy that I haven't been a fan of pizza since I left my hometown of NYC and that's been 12 years now. I went to a job orientation last month, and they served us pizza. That was my only time induldging since surgery, but I have induldged on other "not so nice" things. I was very hungry when they bought that pizza into the office and the smell hypnotized me, I wolfed some down and regretted it afterwards. I didn't get sick but I just felt bad yanno?
I am however a boarderline "wino". I have induldged more than I would like to in large amounts because the "buzz" doesn't stay. Also, I was a big drinker prior to surgery - operative word is "drinker" not "drunkard". I have not been able to tolerate "hard liquor" anymore though. It burns my pouch so I've only had 2 watered down mixed drinks in nearly 7 months. The other part about me is that I don't have a large portion of my intestines bypassed so I may be able to tolerate alcohol better than most. Some people really have a hard time with it, it's about the same for me as it was pre-op.
I confessed to my surgeon about the wine. He said that he was concerned about the calories and the hunger that wine creates, and not the wine itself. So some behavioral modification is in order on my part.
After you have surgery, I really doubt that you will crave pizza for sometime. I think your body will crave other things. I really don't know though, I'm sure you'll be fine either way.

You will have all the above again one day if you choose. If you are like me....the wanting stuff completely left post op long enough for me to get the weight off. Now in maintenance, it is all about making right choices and self-discipline. That is why it is critical for long term success that we incorporate a new healthy lifestyle post op. As a new post op patient, your wants will be different. Best of luck to you.

You and I must be on the same wave length! I was thinking almost the same thing last night, flipping channels and enjoying my Optifast "meal". I came across the Food channel and they were showing some yummy looking food. Then suddenly my head went "What are you doing?!", "Are you sure this is what you should do" and a who lot of other what if..., what if.... I just keep saying to myself "This too shall pass"

I used to be addicted to the food channel, but I have refused to watch it for the last 2 months. I have really been working on rewiring my brain away from the focus of food. Last night jsut got to me! I think today and tomorrow will be hard also because it is the weekend. Maybe I should just go shopping!
