If going to the store to pick up vitamins is such a big problem - order online. At amazon you can find everything you need or walgreens.com or cvs.com. Just get the vitamins shipped to your home.

I don't think its so much her getting the Vitamins as it is taking them everyday. I bought this pill keeper that has Morning, Noon, Evening & Bedtime. I also have two weekly pill keepers I take to work as well to make sure I get them all in. It is abit of work organizing all the pills for the week, but I find it easier for me to have it organized that way & have set times to take them every single day. I even write the times on the keeper & my pill bottles as well so when I go to sort them again its alittle easier than having to re-think about it. This is just what I do to stay on top of my med's & vitamins. Find something that makes it abit easier for you too. Marathon has some pretty good protein bars & I hear Quest has some really good protein bars as well. I havent tried the Quest yet, I would have to order them as I cannot get them here. I eat alot of pinto's & cheese, its soft & filling & good protein. Eating alot of deli meat with cheese, rollups here lately You just have to play around with foods till you find something that works good for you. It isnt easy & I really get sick & tired of eating alot of the same things, but you have to do it.  Good Luck!

Drink protein shakes and take your vitamins if you ever want to get anywhere near your goal weight and have a chance of staying there. You will totally screw up your metabolism and your health if you do not figure something out soon.

tygercub, I understand how you feel attacked by some of the responses to your query. But those are the equivalent of going to your doctor and having him say, "Holy Crap! You're in bad shape!" and whisking you off to the emergency room.

I do hope you can stay open to the message AND to the urgency of the message. You are nearing the edge of a cliff. Once you fall over that cliff, you're down and broken. You are doing damage to your body and brain. Once the damage is done, it's done. You already know this.

The wake-up messages are concerned and loving.

I know what it's like to feel stuck. Boy, do I know. But this is for real. You must take vitamins, even if you hate them. You must get at least 70 g. of protein, even if you hate it. Cowgirl up and own this surgery. Posting on this forum is a wonderful step, just as getting the RNY was.

Let me see if I understand you correctly.  You are not getting enough protein but the reason you are not doing shakes is because the doctor doesn't want you to.  But the doctor DOES want you to eat enough food with protein, and you aren't doing that, and the doctor DOES want you to take vitamins, and you aren't doing that.... so obviously you don't always do whatever the doctor wants you to do.

It's up to you whether to use shakes to get your protein or not.  But you need to get your protein, some how.

And you're not taking vitamins because you're too lazy to go out to buy some that are not chewable?  Then get on your computer, go to drugstore.com, and order some.  You're not too lazy to get on the computer.  But, if you're eating lots of fruits and vegetables, you must be going to the grocery store, right?  And guess what else they sell there?  Vitamins!

I don't mean to sound mean here.  But I do mean to be up front with you.  You're making excuses.  I know all about excuses because I'm really good at making them.  Yours aren't even that good.  What's really going on?

If I am understanding part of your post correctly you have chewables but you don't have to use and you haven't yet bought regular vitamins.

I just wanted to say that just because they are chewables doesn't mean you can't swallow them.   Unless they are just too big.  But even then I would think you could cut them in half.  Now I am not sure how much of an absorption difference this makes for us post-op but it's got to be better than nothing until you get ones you can swallow.  I just mixed mine in with the ones you can swallow.  Like my multivitamin...I would take one chewable in the morning (swallowing it) and then a regular in the evening until they were gone.   Hated those chewables.  Bleech.

For the first few months, I had a very regimented schedule on when I ate. I set my alarm on my phone and took my vitamins on cue as well. It was a lot, but it had to get figured out.

Now, I am pretty much in the same routine, my eating gets off by 30-45 minutes here or there, but I don't go over 3-4 hours without eating. I keep a protein bar in my purse for emergencies.

Have you tried the think thin protein bars? They are pretty good. Good luck to you, hang in there, it will get better.

There is absolutely no reason you can't do protein shakes.  Perhaps your doctor would like you to get most of your protein from food, but if you're not, then you need to supplement.  My doctor encourages protein shakes.  I wonder why yours would be against them.   I have a protein drink for breakfast every day.

I hate most of my chewables, especially the calcium I have right now, but I force myself to take them.  I did this surgery to lose weight and be healthy.  There is no way in hell I am going to sabotage myself after going through all the pain, the re-learning to eat, the six-month supervised diet, the psych evaluation, the insurance submission, the expense, etc.  No.  Frigging.  Way.

Stick with the program, kiddo.  It'll get easier.

You know what you have to do; put it in your mind and do it.  If shakes are necessary even if your surgeon says don't doesn't seem wise to me.  YOU are ultimately reponsible for your success and your health......we can suggest (firmly or cuddle you) that's not going to change you and you taking responsibility.

My suggestion:  drink the shakes, set an alarm and take your vits (yes it's difficult I go through periods of slacking too and have to give myself a pep talk)......if you've seen or talked to others that have experienced permanent disability and/or malnutrition then I promise you it will live an everlasting impression on you.

Many of us have been around here for years.  Take some advice from the vets you don't want to go down that road.
