Ok so heres the deal....I was 4 months out yesterday. I havent done too bad if you ask me, over 80 lbs from surgery. BUT I have a huge problem in my opinion, I am NOT getting my vitamins and protein in like I need to be. I get maybe 30-40 g of protein a day and do not take the vitamins like I should be.
This is a huge deal, I know that, I need to find a way that works for me to get all this in like I need to. With my vitamins, it comes down to lazyness in not going to buy non-chewables. Since I know I can take them(Dr okayed them), I detest the chewables which is what started the non-taking BAD habit.
But with my protein, I dont do shakes because the Dr doesnt want me to, and I have trouble eating( mostly forgetting or getting nauseous when I try to eat something high in protein(like a slice of deli meat and cheese). I just dont know how much of that is mentally telling my tummy no. I am hoping alot of this is head related and not really my tummy. I crave fruits and veggies ALOT, could that be because I know I am not suppose to concentrate on them? Should I just do the shakes since I NEED the protein? I am at a loss here and would like to stop losing my hair. I got some Click protein samples to try...I am not a morning person so cooking breakfast is not an option on days I have school or work. I never get hunger pangs anymore.

Please any suggestions will be welcome!!! I know this isnt healthy and thats why I am asking for help!

Come on.. you did this surgery to get healthy and by not taking your vitamins in the long run you will be worse off than if you didn't have the surgery and stayed obese.  Don't make excuses about vitamins go get some TODAY.  I take bariatric advantage chewable and I think they taste fine (better than drug stores ones IMO)

As for the protein, I think your doctor would rather you drink a shake then not get in enough protein.  Your hair is really going to fall out if you don't increase it (and take your vitamins)  dense protein botherd my pouch early on but for some reason beef jerky didn't, try it.  Also greek yogurt, I ate a TON of cheese in the beginning, almonds, cottage cheese, get some protein jello and add sugar free cool whip.  Have you tried protein bars? They are a life saver to me because I'm always in a rush and it's quick and easy and good protein.  This is my typical diet and has been for about 6 months

B-protein bar/fruit
S-beef jerky or 1/2 protein bar
L- Tuna salad w/veggies
S- other half of protein bar or almonds
D-4 oz meat or fish/small salad or veggies
S-Click
S-fruit

This is 1200-1400 calories and 75-100 grams of protein  I can't eat big meals so I just try to eat a little bit (200ish calories)  every 3 hours

I go through phases.. I eat 2 a day and I tend to eat the same one for a month everyday then I get sick of it and look for a new one LOL  My favorite ones are Supreme Protein I get them at CVS and Walmart they have like 6 flavors and they are all GREAT, they do NOT taste like protein bars I think I'm eating a candy bar my fav flavor is peanut butter pretzel twist.  I also really like the peanut butter and jelly one but they are all great.  Balance Bar has a mint on that tastes like a girl scout thin mint but it has a little less protein so I try not to have those all the time although I used to be obsessed with them lol  A lot of people like QUEST bars you have to order them online I don't really care for them, except that they aren't chocolate and are GREAT in your purse especailly in the summer because they won't melt but they are kinda blah to me.

I would do the shakes or bars. Getting it in supplement form for now is better than not getting what you need in at all. Vitamins-Time to take off the lazy pants & take your vitamins. This is for life, which I assume you already know. If you don't take your vitamins, eventually you will become very sick. Not trying to be mean or hurtful, but you opted into this journey & its not a joke. Don't mess around with your health. This is one of the reasons I opted for RNY, I can't quit it. I have to do what's right or become sick.

How about - get your butt out there and start taking your vitamins? and start drinking protein shakes.
Just because your doc does not want you to do that  - is not reason not to have them.

Protein malnourishment is bad - really bad. And not taking vitamins? That's just crazy. Some vitamin deficiencies may cause PERMANENT damage - permanent - means once the damage is done it can't be undone even when you start taking them again.

Last night I went to CVS and the have their brand on sale: bu one get one free. Can;t get cheaper than that.  I got multi (CVS spectravite) and calcium and Vit C and B, and magnesium.

I really not sure if you want sympathy or a slap.
Here is it from me: SLAP!!!
Why do you value your health and your life so little that you don't do what you need to stay healthy?

The suggestions was about the protein. I try and everything I have read on here says to FOLLOW what your Dr wants. So I have been trying to get my protein in and not drink shakes. I understand about the vitamins and protein deficiancy is bad but do you really need to be rude?!
I DO value my life and health otherwise I wouldnt have had this surgery. I can make excuses all day. I am an adult and know not taking my vitamins is stupid. I didnt post on here to get sympathy I posted because I seriously do NOT what to keep not getting in my protein and all. I shouldnt have even posted about the vitamins but I figured I would be honest about it all.

This is why i dont post on here. I dont like feeling attacked and maybe I am just being over sensitive but hey I am who I am. I need my protein and just thought maybe you all could give me some advice to help me get it in everyday.

THERE'S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL!!!

By: Leilani

That's the sentiment (scenario) that comes to mind sometimes when I hear some of the comments from people who've already had the surgery. In case you haven't made the connection, that's a line Tom Hanks made famous in the movie "A League Of Their Own." Resorting to tears or just giving up every time the going gets tough. Or your sick of taking vitamins, getting in protein is hard, water doesn't taste good, etc. That kinda' thinking is NOT going to make you successful or keep you healthy. ENOUGH already! It's time to LOVE yourself enough to get "TOUGH" wtih your aftercare. Your longterm health is worth it!!

Success comes with a backbone, NOT a wishbone!

First and foremost, you have to keep it POSITIVE. As with everything in life, if you think you can't - you WON'T! Simple enough?

I have to wonder when "we" (as adults) finally take ownershipfor our actions, our life and our health? We have been given a gift, a second chance to actually LIVE life again instead of merely existing on the sidelines. It's up to each of us to do that as healthy and productively as possible.

We're ALL statistics waiting to happen and the insurance companies are chomping at the bit. The bean counters are eager to drop Weight Loss Surgery ("WLS") from the policies; some already have. Don't you know that any negative feedback thrown into the mix only strengthens their cause? I may not be able to control every thing that happens to my body after WLS, but most things I can. I CHOOSE to take control and I will be a positive statistic when the numbers get counted.

We live in a spoiled society, expecting everything in life to come with a buncha really cool choices. Well, guess what? When it comes to your health, you're not always going to get a choice. You either DO IT and stay healthy, or you DON'T and your body pays the price.

The way I saw it, I had a 90 day healing and adjusting period after surgery. My 'super morbidly obese' body had more than enough stores to survive the learning curve. In turn, it gave me plenty of time to heal, adjust and learn. For those of you OVER 90 days Post-Op, the probation period is over - its time to get serious and LIVE what you've learned.

* You say you can't get in enough liquids throughout the day, don't like the taste of water, or just keep forgetting? -- TOUGH! It's not an option anymore. Find a way to do it, get suggestions and tips from others in support groups, message boards, etc. Read, learn and JUST DO IT!! Why do you think there is a choice here?

* You say you don't like the big horse pill type vitamins, or the tart chalky chewables? ... it's just too many to bother with? Or maybe you just can't remember to take them? -- TOUGH! You gave up the option NOT to take vitamins when you agreed to have your insides rerouted. FIND a way to get them in; crushed, minced, chopped, liquified, in a shake, etc. No exceptions, your health depends on it.

* Protein is a must. So you can't get it all in via foods and you don't like the way the shakes taste? -- TOUGH! Either get it through your meals (and there are a gazillion food choices out there) or supplement it with protein shakes and bars.

Trust me, I don't drink my protein shake every morning because I think it tastes like a chocolate blizzard from Dairy Queen. I've tried many varieties over the last 2 years. I'd even venture to say 25 of the top sellers/flavors have crossed my lips. For the record? I've yet to find one that is as 'delicious' as boasted by the distributor. So what. I still drink one every morning. My HEALTH dictates that I need "X" grams of protein per day. If I'm not getting enough from my meals then I supplement a shake. 'Nuff said.

This surgery is a gift, I owe it to me and everyone else fighting the approval process, to do it right! I will continue to choke down my vitamins, my water and my protein every single day, for the REST OF MY LIFE. Some days will be easier than others, regardless, no days will be missed.

It's all about discipline. Create a routine, set a timer, develop a pattern, tie a string around your finger, glue a note on your forehead, whatever it takes.

You're an adult - take responsibility!
If this surgery doesn't slap a back bone into you, not much will.

Geez, where were you when there was a girl whining about needing help and then it came out that she was eating and drinking!! These post are crazy!

It's like having a newborn and forgetting to feed it or being too lazy to. I just don't get it.

and then the "your rude" comment. Unbelievable.

Thanks.  Being 4 years post op - I have seen it- back and forth. Some day s- I do not what to get irritated.. and try to avoid reading...
But some days - I really feel bad for the person. Like in this case... She asked question before - like when she was 4 weeks post op... And a lot of us try to tell her what she needs to do... then she is back...with this... grrr.... yeap...
And as you know - it is not getting much better longer post op we are... we need to be so diligent... And I know a couple of people who are now on disability because they did not took vitamins - and they even forget that they were told they need it....
It saddens me...
But you know - she is going to do what she wants to do anyway? right?  Maybe my words can put some fire into her? hope she can turn that into positive energy... if not... she needs to pray a lot ...
