I bought my vitamins the other day and just wanted to make sure there wasnt anything else you all recommend taking.

My dr just wants me to take a multivitamin and calcium with D. and B12

I am taking:
Multi Vitamin -2x day
Calcium w/ D- 2x day
biotin- 1/day
B12 1000mcg- 1/day (I take a shot once a month- dr said this was ok)
Fish Oil- 2x day
potassium- 1/day (i have trouble with muscle cramps and had a problem early out with this being low)

anything else I should take or that you vets recommend I change?

I appreciated your suggestions the other day and have been trying really hard to use them. I made my protein goal yesterday and am on my way to it today.

You will need more calcium than that.  We need 1500-2000 mg according to the ASMBS and can only absorb about 500 mg at a time, so we need three or four doses a day.  Make sure it's calcium citrate, not carbonate.

You also need iron.  The ASMBS recommends 54-63 mg for menstruating women and 36 mg for everyone else.  There may be iron in your multi, in which case you may be getting the 36 mg already, if that's all you need.  But if not, you need to take separate iron.

Almost everyone also needs extra D3.  You can ask your doc to order a blood test to see your vitamin D level so you know how much you need to take.

Thanks! I will increase my calcium dose. right now it is 600mg so I will jump it to 3 a day, that will give me 1500 if we can only absorb 500 at a time.
I will check my iron on my multi so that way I know if i need to buy some.
Why does it matter if it is carbonate or citrate? I have read some things that say it doesnt matter and didnt know which to believe. My dr never specified.

It matters a LOT.  After RNY, we have much less stomach acid in our pouch than a normal person has in their stomach.  It takes a lot of stomach acid to break down calcium carbonate for absorption.  Same with tricalcium phosphate, by the way.  The calcium citrate, on the other hand, doesn't need much acid to break down.

For people with normal stomachs, it doesn't matter much.  For those with reduced stomach acid, it does.

Glad to see that you have taken getting your vitamins & protein in to heart. It's not always easy to remember or to just actually do. For me, having them organized & ready to go makes all the difference for me. Otherwise I would be having issues with mine too I'm sure. Best of luck with everything.

That is so true! the night I posted that i went to cvs and got them and found my week pill organizer. I filled it up and it is sitting next to my bed where I keep my water at. hard to miss. I have always read the lables and looked at the protein in it but I never really kept track like i needed to so i didnt realize I wasnt getting it all in. But adding that shake yesterday and getting some roasted edamame(not sure if spelled right) definately helped boost me over 80g. I am going to set my goal there, then when that is easy for me to achieve I will set it higher. But 80g is the low end that I have seen people say thats what they get after.
