I do attend a support group once a month and it is actually run by my surgeon, Dr. Schlesinger.
My friend is going with a different weight loss surgery center and that one has groups that meet more often, and since it is open to all WLS patients, I will go to those also.
My surgeon's support group provides a mixture of emotional support and education.
I think it has helped me because my weight loss after surgery seems slow, and another guy who had surgery the same day has had the same experience. I do enjoy the social aspects of being in a group. They pointed out that I did not put the weight on overnight and told me to pay attention to measurements and clothing, not just the scale.

Do you attend a support group regularly (you can define regularly however you want; IÂ'd say it means you go more often than you donÂ't)?
I go every month
2. If you donÂ't, why not?
3. Is your support group associated with your surgeon?
Yes, it is facilitated by my surgeon's nurse and dietitian, he comes for the first 10-15 minutes
4. How often does your support group meet? 1x month
5. Would you say that your support group focuses more on providing emotional support or on education? education - a lot of priority on pre-ops. Sometimes TOO much talk to the pre-op questions
6. How would you say that your support group has helped you?
Mainly just the accountability of seeing my nurse and NUT every month.
