Anyone have revision from lap band to bypass?
Im considering a revision. I was just wondering if there is anyone who has had a revision from the band to the bypass and could give me any information. I have had nothing but pain and issues with the band from the begining. I just want to make sure I know what I am getting myself into with the bypass and it would really help having someone who had the band and can tell me some of the differences.
Thanks for any help

Yes this not uncommon. There is one woman in one of my support groups who used to have a band. She lost about 70 pounds over a year or so, but had to go to her surgeon several times a month due to pain and eating issues. When the surgeon had her (and other patient) make "off hour" appointments and enter his office through the rear entrance instead of the normal entry, she and these other patients figured it was time to end his services. My surgeon checked her and her band had slipped, and yet her old surgeon said nothing was wrong, the patient must be doing something wrong. BTW, she is very glad she got the RNY. No more pain, and far far less issues than she had with her previous band surgery. Good luck on your decision. DAVE

I had band to bypass revision in Nov 2011 and to date have lost 73 pounds. Best decision I have ever made. The band was a constant nuisance and I actually gained with it because I couldnt get the correct fill over 3 yrs. I can now eat healty but RNY is just a tool as is the band. I have still worked out and watched what I eat and have went from a size 26-28 to a 16. Love it!!! Good luck to you and do your research and make an informed decision.
I did have lap band revised to rny. best decision i could ever make, my band had slipped and i never knew neither surgeons until they opened me up to remove band. i never reached optimal restriction but still vomited all the time, severe left shoulder pain. i was supposed to be revised to a POSSIBLE sleeve but guess what... my band created so much fissures and scar tissue that my surgeon didnt want to take a chance so i got a bypass only 5 weeks ago. i feel absolutely fine. 100 percent actually. i started playing volley ball and soft ball and i lost 29 pound since surger of may 4 yay me. i strongly suggest u convert u will not be disapointed, good luck.

I had the Realize band done 2/10...I lost weight but did not lose as much as I thought I should. I felt the darn thing every day. I cried just about every day for almost the last year...had way to much pain and felt the port. I could swear that I was able to feel the band itself. To make matter worse the doctor that did my band his office closed. The office closed at the end of June 2010. I had to find my own doctor to follow up/fills. I started seeing Dr W in October 2010 he did my fills and my follow ups. I never really said anything about the pain that I felt until this last year in November. I got something stuck the Friday before Christmas it was bad!!! I called my doctor he said come on down 2 1/2 hour drive and it took him all of 5 seconds to make me feel better. He opened his office just to get me fixed up!! That is when he said ok call my office so we can set up an upper gi...got that scheduled and done got a fill one more time complained even more went back for my appointment in April checked again...the dreaded word SLIPPAGE!!! Yes my band and my port were slipping and moving around. I could tell when it had moved...some days I could eat enough for 5 people some days I could not even ge****er down. To make matters worse I started gaining weight no matter what I did increased protein and working out I still gained weight. My revision was approved in a matter of days and I was scheduled with just enough time to start pre op diet. There are some days that I think to myself what did I get myself into...I hurt. I am just a wimp!! I am feeling better and am thinking it will be worth it in the end. It feels good to know that I don't have the port or band in my body anymore. I hope that I didn't just go on and on and I hope this helps you.
