i Had my gastric bypass on 10/10/11. since then i have lost 150lbs, I am almost at half my weight. Soon I will be at 1 yr!!! I have medicare (humana) which paid for my surgery but I'm wondering if anyone has the same insurance and if so do they offer any coverage for skin removal. I know I can just call the # on my card but sometimes speaking with people who have gone through the same can help also. Any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance...

Humana has a separate Bariatrics Dept. Ask for them when you call. They may have a different answer than the regular customer service number.

I dont have humana, I have straight Medicare and from what I have been told and I think it works this way for most insurances, if you can prove medical necessity such as rashes, breaks in skins with oozing, large amounts of skin pulling down that is rubbing causing these problems - you need to take pictures to proove that you have these problems.  Then in most cases, they will perform the skin removal but not the tummy tuck.

Occasionally, if you have a hernia - a surgeon will do the tummy tuck at the same time and allow you to pay the difference since the insurance is already paying for the anesthesia and the OR.  I hope this helps.

I'd love to know what you found out. I am pre-op but I know in about a year I will be in the same boat as you are. This is one of the questions I have but haven't had the opportunity to ask. I'd be grateful to know the outcome of your contact w/ Humana.

Thanks and congrats on your achievement!

 Hope, love, prayers and encouragement!
