Thank you all for your advice and encouragement.  I have an appt to see a therapist in a few days. I know AA would be helpful - but I think seeing a therapist and dealing with my issues one on one with someone is more what I am compfortable with at least at the moment.   I am following the AA advise though - just being concerned with getting thru today. I will handle tomorrow and the future as it gets here.

What a journey...I will make it!!!

I just want to say that in the past year they found that there is a 54% increase in alcoholism among RNY patients 1 to two years out.  At first they thought this was just a replacement addiction or the actual drop in rate and tolerance.  The latest research states that it is due to alcohol is absorbed in the stomach and the surface area is so small that it is absorbed very quickly.  The reason heroin is so addictive is because of the quick absorption.  The quicker it hits your system, the more likely for addiction.  I am a recovering alcoholic now and it developed one and a half years after my surgery.  I had to go trough detox, because alcohol and benzodiazepams (xanax) are the only things that detoxing can kill you, so you don't want to suddenly stop with out supervision.  I later in my disease ended up with pancreatitis from the drinking too and have to go on enzymes.  I am desperately hoping to improve all of my digestive issues. Now I have to eat a very low fat diet, stick to fish and beans for my protein.  I am lactose intolerant and have the dumping that a lot of us get.  I am sure hoping to benefit from the enzymes.  I am 5 years out and haven't gained any weight back and have to really watch that I don't lose anymore weight.  I am so sick of being sick EVERY time I eat.  So many foods are made with milk which makes me deathly ill and sugar produces low glucose in me resulting in sweating, nausea and trips to the bathroom.  I love the fact I look so good with the weight loss, but am not sure it was worth it.  Definitely well worth it if the enzymes cure all of my dietary issues!  Good luck!
