Pain Management?
I have offered advise before and I will try again. As far as meds - there is a patch that I wear for severe pain that is great for us with malabsorbtion called the duragesic patch or fentanyl patch, You wear it for 72 hours and goes directly into your bloodstream for constant pain relief. If you are still in pain, you can then still take your oxycocodone but not nearly as often and sometimes at a lower dose.
I never had a any luck with tens and if there are no nerves involved it wont help.
As far as injections go = there are lots of different types - there are epidurals that are for herniated discs, there are facet injects which are for arthritis /degenerative disc disease and if the facets dont work there is another procedure I have to look up but that is further down the road. These things work, I have had them in my neck and my lumbar spine. I have had steroid injections in many of my joints.
I have to say, following your story of your pain reminds me of when I was a teenager. I had a problem with my right ankle - I tore the ligaments walking a 20 mile walkathon when I was 12 years old and then continued to tear them yearly or twice per year for the next 12 years or longer. My parents to took me to every top hospital and top orthopedist in New York CIty and got every possible diagnosis you could think of but nothing got me better. They all made sense when we were there but a month later I was worse and they then made no sense. As I was reading my neck is unstable due to age and the ligaments are shot it just brought back so many memories. I had gone to one surgeon at the Hospital for Joint Disease which is one of the top Orthopedic hospitals in the country and my parents and I were told (I was 19 by them) that I had stretched my ligaments and needed surgery to shorten them. We went to another surgeon for a second opinion and was told that they were too short and needed to be stretched.
I definitely recommend getting a neck collar. I know I mentioned to you in the winter when I was havin terrible neck pain and I mentioned it again recently, if you want details, PM me - but without details, staying off my computer for a few weeks really helped and using my laptop helps although even if I use the laptop at the wrong angle it I still get the piercing pains. I may go for injections at some point but have too much other stuff going on at this point.
I really hate to see others in pain - I live with it every day and wish I could help you. If you ever have any questions, please feel free to ask anytime
