OT Insurance Costs

Because of my greedy asshole neighbor neighbors reporting a small fender bender on their $200 20 year old car that I hit last Nov. my insurance has tripled.  That said car BTW has since been junked due to the transmission breaking down.  I guess it wasn't worth fixing if it wasn't on my dime.  Anyway, before that my record was perfect and I had preferred rates.  Now my rates have tripled like I said.  Part of the problem was an accident my daughter got in while under my insurance that was reported as being by me.  I got that straightened out hoping that would drive the cost down but it is still very high.  So basically I have a clean record except that fender bender and a claim on my insurance's towing for $30,  and they canceled me because of those things.  I am guessing the fact that my credit isn't perfect contributes to the high cost.  I am never late on a payment but I did file for bankruptcy several years ago.
Anyway, I am shopping around for insurance.  Does anyone have any insurance company they can recommend?  Some place that won't take your first born child for a payment?  I checked with places like GEICO and they want something like $200 a month for basic state limits.  I am honestly thinking of giving up my license between gas prices and insurance costs.  I was only paying about $60 a month before my neighbors decided that Christmas came early for them.
And please, don't lecture me about how I damaged their car and they  have a right to get paid, blah, blah, blah.  They really only paid $200 for it because he is a tow truck driver.  If he had a right to be compensated they should have gotten their money back for  that piece of **** car that they went and fixed because it was a "classic".  Yeah, it was such a classic that they didn't want to put the money into fixing it when the trannie went out when it wasn't coming out of someone else's pocket.
ps If you live in Portland, Oregon and can recommend an ethical insurance agent that would be great.

Wish I could help, I can't.

I remember the only accident on my record. I was backing out of a parking space in a parking lot with two very wide lanes for traffic going two ways. I looked to see if anyone was coming in the correct decision, and checked for pedestrians, and then backed carefully out, and hit a girl who was also pulling out of her parking space and was in the lane facing the wrong way. Her daddy was a lawyer (of course) so I was dinged, and my insurance was doubled for six years (and in six months, it paid for her tiny dent) I haven't evven ever had a ticket or other claim on my insurance.

Jerks.

Meanies.

Good luck. Have you tried "Progressive"?

I can relate to this issue very well. My granddaughter was on my policy, and she driving too fast in an unfamiliar area and hit the garage on a home. Broke about 4 feet of stucco, that had to be replaced. BUT, these idiot home owners thought the $$$ train had come.  They reported $72,000 in damage to musical instruments on their claim.  Things like $4K guitars, collector musical instruments, etc.  They claim all of these were right inside the garage where the car hit.  Of course all of these items were junked. It made no sense to me to store expensive musical amps and guitars next to a garage door, where damage from moisture would be possible.   My insurance attorney has just demanded to see proof of ownership, appraisal of said items, etc.  My property damage portion of my insurance was not high enough to cover said damages, so I'm sweating a court order to pay the $50K balance.

BTW, I found that AAA (The Auto Club) has offered us the best rates I can find on auto insurance.  I've upped my property damage to $100K since this accident, almost a year ago.  I would suggest you up property damage limits, not carry minimums, based on my accident.

"Idiot homeowners" because YOUR granddaughter hit THEIR house??  Incredible.  So now it's the homeowner's fault she was speeding and damaged their possessions?  Wow.  I'd be pissed if someone ran into my garage and damaged our Harleys, etc, which are stored right inside the door.  Never had any moisture issues in the garage because we have a DOOR.  I can't stand people that blame the injured party for their own carelessness.  Guess you learned a lesson.  And you taught your GD that you'll pay for them.  Nice.

Surgery weight:  232 lbs. / Goal: 145 lbs. Height:  5'5"     Fat? Ain't nobody got time for that.

I have no issues with the damage to the garage. It's the content I have issue with.  Yes, you store cars and motorcycles in the garage, but high dollar musical instruments?  Autos and cars are built to be exposed to some moisture. But wood construction instruments, electronic amplifiers, etc. are not. I drove by the home within 20 hours of the accident, and only saw stucco damage.  Their insurance company sent over a list of damaged items that were single spaced on 4 or 5 pages, totaling over $70K.  No claims for repair of any musical items, just a claim that all items on the list were damaged beyond repair.  My car did not enter the garage at all. In fact the firemen used the remote on the garage door opener to open the garage to see if there was any fire inside the garage.  BTW, she was being chased by a rapist, one that had drugged her and raped her when she was 16.  DAVE

I have Plymouth Rock (which used to be Palisades).  I live in NJ though so I am not sure oif they are nationwide or if their rates are reasonable since there is no such thing as reasonable car insurance in NJ.  I can tell you that my husband had an accident a few years ago where his car was totalled and the rates did not go up much at all.  My daughter was also in an accident prior to that and we did not see a drastic increase in rates.
