OT Insurance Costs

 We research insurance coverage every couple of years, and have always found State Farm to be the cheapest.  However, their claims process is amongst the most stingy. My parents obtained incredible rates through The Hartford, but I think that was because they were retired.  GEICO and Progressive have always been really high, and American Family and Allstate always had unreasonable driving history requirements (unreasonable, as defined by me, was anything that would prejudice me from obtaining a good insurance rate).  It kills me that car insurance companies are allowed to do credit checks as part of their risk assessment, since they are allowed to cancel coverage if premiums go unpaid.  

Why don't you find an independent agent to do some of the research for you?  

 the lowest for me was progressive, though my rates jumped when i got into an accident. right now my dad has me as a driver on his plan since i don't drive much and it's his cars i drive when i do. he has allstate but is shopping around, though he is on a super old grandfathered plan so i don't think he'll get a better rate for the coverage he has. 

American Family has been good to us. When I had a fender bender years ago State Farm doubled my rates too. They wanted me back after it fell off my record but I said no thanks.

When I was in high school I was going down a steep icy hill, slid and sideswiped 4 or 5 cars parked on that hilly road. Like my Mom taught me I knocked on doors and finally left notes on ALL of the cars. Her rates went sky high after all of those claims were settled. She just shook her head at me. She knew she taught me to be honest but I think she wanted to kill me for side swiping all of those cars LOL
