EGD & Work Question

The actual procedure only takes about 20 minutes or so.  But there will be a little prep time before they start the procedure and they'll keep you in recovery for an hour or so until te anesthesia wears off.

You will be sedated for the procedure, so you may feel too tired or just out of it to do much work or to do your job well.

It depends on the type of sedation you have. I have had them done with different types of sedation and felt more/less groggy.  The procedure takes around 20-30 minutes depending. Mine took longer because there were some retained staples to remove.

I wouldn't suggest going back to work after, unless you have a work from home sort of thing  I felt groggy, and a tad nauseated, and just felt a lot better resting for the remainder of the day.

I would say no to working the rest of the day. Theoretically you'll still have the meds working in your system for around 4 hours. Which is why you need to.have someone to drive you home. I'm a bit on the cautious side and wont drive if I've taken a percocet, but then again if I get a DWI/DUI I can lose my nursing license.
