What to do with my too-big clothes????

I usually just donate to Salvation Army, but I have a few nice dresses that I had for various weddings. I'll be donating those to a special organization for teens who can't afford prom dresses.

I applaude you and all others who donate! Can you imagine the smile of a young person that might otherwise go without a prom dress?
larger sizes sell really well on ebay I've found. I used to purchase good clothing items at local resale shops and sell on there for a profit. Just put together a couple of outfits or several shirts in the same size and style/season and sell them that way or donate them to goodwill where you can take the tax write off
Sounds like you and I buy similar clothing....several Jones pants and several very pretty Laura Ashley tops. I actually am keeping a few of my favorite tops. I donated a bunch to goodwill also. eBay is a great place to sell stuff... I actually am a nurse working in a rehab. Hospital and most of the patients are there a week or two. The patients wear their own clothing and many don't have family to do their laundry or bring in new things so I donated several items there.....very funny to see a 80ish year old lady wearing one of my old shirts! She did look nice though! Most of our patients are 60 on up (strokes, ortho surgery, etc.). The clothing is much appreciated at our rehab....especially the larger sizes.....easier for those with issues to get on and off larger items even bigger than what they usually wear. I ran into the same thing at one of my local consignment shops....I hate that smaller sizes rule the place! There are so many people that wear large, plus sized clothing! Doesn't it feel weird when buying new things.....I still can't believe I can look in the regular sized area of any store....I still emotionally feel like I should be looking in the plus 2-3x parts! Good Luck to you.

I plan to take alot of my shirts, cut them up and make myself a quilt. I have been quilting for just a couple of years and I haven't made myself a quilt yet, so that is my plan. Shirts that I don't think will work for the quilt will be donated or thrown in a yard sale (if I ever decide to have one).

Gee, I wish you lived closer to me! I'm in a 5X now and I'm worried how I will get smaller clothes when the time comes. But shipping would be a lot I'm sure and funds are really tight right now.
Thanks for the ideas, folks. I hadn't really thought of selling them on EBay or CL. I may give that a try with some of the really nice stuff that I'm loathe to give up but don't want around to grow back into!
I do give a lot of stuff to Goodwill...stuf that is prefectly good, but not worn or stained or terribly outdated, just not the stuff that either still has the tags on it or been worn once. I had a terrible habit of buying stuff that was just a little too small for me at end-of -season sales, thinking ...Oh by next winter/summer, I'll be back down to that size and this is such a good buy. As a result, I now have things that I might get to wear ONCE as a skate through that size on my way down.
I'm not complaining, mind you...

i gave a lot to my best friend's sister in-law and she was grateful as she was looking for a teacher's job and a lot of my clothes were nicer looking. now i give them to my best friend, we're close to the same size but things fit us differently. i still have some plus-size juicy couture that i want to re-purpose and just haven't yet. i was thinking of making pillows out of them, could probably even cut out the design and make wall-art with them.
