food scale?

I was just wondering that when some of you say you had 2 0z of chicken are you actually weighing it? Just wondering if a food scale is something I need to invest in to measure things out.

For the beginnng of my plan, I bought 3 oz dixie cup and filled them 2/3rds full. I always measured by volume and by ability to eat (I stopped when I figured I was full, even if there was food left)

I never once measured the weight of my food.

Personally, I measure everything, so I can have an idea of the calories I've taken in, my eating patterns, what I may need to change, etc.

 I weigh chicken faithfully. Yogurt and other things I measure by volume most of the time, although it's pretty easy to eyeball say, 1/4 of a pint container to get half a cup. I do know what 3 oz of chicken looks like, but knowing me, in six months I'll be estimating half a chicken to be 3 oz. Inflation, you know. Handily, 3 oz of chicken is exactly the amount I can hold.

I use a cheap mechanical food scale. I probably should have chosen a digital one, but I was in money saving mode at the time.

I bought a scale at walmart and actually weigh everything. My doctor's plan has us weighing protein and using measuring cups for veg and fruit when we get to that stage where we can have those.

I got a neat digital one from walmart for like $20

Never ever put anything in your mouth that you are going to eat that you do not measure in some way. Your eyes are always bigger than your stomach. You will get what I call food creep. That is you will start out with a reasonably close amount of something and day by day you think you are eating the same amount but it will be bigger and bigger until you are eating way more than you should. Now in most cases when you try to eat more than our pouch will hold it will hurt and you will toss it up...not fun. So to avoid that, please get yourself a good scale. One that subtracts what you are putting your food into and gives you a true measurement of the amount of food you are eating. Be sure and look up how many calories what ever amount of food you are eating will be on your daily allotment your NUT has given you. Please don't just say OH that looks like 4oz because over time you will start to eat way to much. This is the voice of someone who has done that over the years and got all my fat back as a reward. Now I measure everything and will do it for the rest of my life. Even took my scale on vacation with me and if I go into a restaurant my wife has it in her purse and I take it out and weigh what I am going to eat.

I weigh/measure almost always at home.  It is an eye opener for sure, when you first start.  I would really like to have a purse sized scale for eating out.  I haven't seen one before, but will look.

I have found measuring rather than weighing helps me.  I know the volume my pouch is supposed to hold so measuring cups help me better than scales.

Sorry dude i can not agree with you that you measured the weight by cups instead the scale..food scale i think is the best way to measure the weight of ingredients..i personally say that food scale is very helpful scale for the kitchen and also essential part of our food to measure it...
