Pain in my Butt
When I woke up yesterday evening I've been experiencing muscle pain in my butt on both side. The only thing I did the night before was went to the fair & sat on some bleachers & watched a concert. I couldn't find a comfortable position to sit in so we ended up going down on the ground & standing. I haven't done anything strenuous, kinda weird & annoying. I do still have pain & numbness in my thigh but it isn't as bad as it used to be. What causes this? Anyone else experiencing this too? Anything I can do to relieve the pain? I'm gonna try a heating pad then ice packs, we shall see how this goes.
Sitting on hard surfaces can be difficult for post ops as you lose appreciable wt. The padding you've had for years in that area is diminished, and the vast majority of post ops experience this issue. It usually subsides in a few months, but can be an issue later once in a while. I still have the issue driving long distances in my vehicle. DAVE

Oh boy, it's not that my rear end was the problem as far as where my weight was, but man it came off there first and ever since, I cannot sit for too long anywhere. I have to get up and move constantly because it hurts. Also the numbness. I am going on my third month and it is getting better, but still is a problem. If I am sitting outside on our patio furniture, I have to put some beach towels down to at least make it to where I can sit and still have to move around. Take Care, Jane

My nurse at my surgeon's office (who I see more than the surgeon) warned me that once the weight drops, I will probably be cold most of the time and not to be surprised in my butt hurts. She said these are the most common comments made by post-ops. We lose our insulation and our padding...but I am okay with that!

I'm going to work my gluteals hard! Do not want pain in the butt!
If I'm going to lose the little fat that's there, at least I want a cushion of muscle.
There was an episode of King of the Hill where Hank was diagnosed with Diminished Glute Syndrome. He met with a support group and got belt-on butt prosthetics--which were an endless source of amusement to his buddies. Maybe those things really exist. We could all look like J-Lo.

Muscle pain, I can't help you with, but some folks have issues with their tailbone postop.
I encourage individuals (especially if you have a big butt pre-op) to use a ****yx Cushion

(this one is available on Amazon for less than $12)
TailBONE pain is felt when you lose posterior padding, and your tailbone, which hasn't had to be lifted out of the way evver since you got a larger posterior, will get bruised. MOST folks still have a muscle that can pull the tailbone up and out of hurt's way, but it's weak and under-used, so you have to strengthen it (You'll do that without even thinking about it). As it strengthens, you'll no longer bruise it and the swelling will go down over time. if you use a ****yx cushion, that makes up for the missing mass.
