Perhaps I stick around because, as a teacher, I regurgitate the same stuff over and over and over.

I treat my classes like a television show. Think of the Daily Show, or Colbert Report, or Tonight Show but without interviews. I have a minute-by-minute "script" (in my head) that I run through, with graphics, funnies, commercial breaks (they get up and talk) and all sorts of entertainment formats. I watch the talk shows and marvel at the way they do things and mimic them.

Of course my favorite talk shows have a STAFF... I simply do it, live, three times a day, three 90-minute "shows" ... so I'm used to rewording, rewriting, and trying to make it better time after time.

This year I actually hired my very own television intern to help me make it into a REAL television show. (I'm VERY big for my britches)

I really try not to respond to posts when I am in a particularly bad mood or irritable or whatever, because I don't want to come across as being snarky or rude or anything other than helpful and factual.  I'm sure sometimes I have been less than pleasant, though.  But I do try to be nice.

I don't think I'm superior to anybody, in terms of being a better person or a person of greater worth.  I do think I know more about vitamins than some people.  I've spent a lot of time researching the subject.  I'm sure there are some other subjects I know more about than some other people, too.  And I am sure that those people that know less about vitamins than I do know more about some other subjects than I do.  No one is an expert about everything.  Not even doctors.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

Personally, I am a newbie and I can't tell you how much I have learned from the vets posts. Your info has been great and helped me a bunch in just the first few weeks!  So thanks for all the time that you all spend answering the same questions over and over!  A lot of us appreciate your knowledge and input!

I would like to comment to you vets.......thank-you.  When I first started trolling this sight about 20 months ago.....I found myself looking for your names to see what you had to say....not really realizing that you were the vets.  I just felt that you were the ones telling it like it is and that is what I needed to hear.  Living in a small town out in the boonies of the Texas panhandle, there are no support groups other than WW...been there too many times.....you have totally been my support group.......again thank-you.....
Slow and steady !!!!  Have a Blessed Day !!!!!!

People are people it's simple as that.

10 of us could witness the same accident not speak and go write down what we saw and while bits and pieces may be the same rarely will the entire encounter be written accurately, That is because of perception. If someone is constantly told they are stupid, ugly, fat or whatever they are looking for that in responses. That is what they will see. (I just learned this at therapy last week about myself )

If we are in a foul mood we may read a response with a tone that wasn't implied. It may or may not bother us at another time.

Further more when a person responds in a blunt matter of fact manner it could come off as condescending to someone who isn't used to that kind of answer. Or maybe that type of answer reminds them of their mother who never had anything nice to say to them, who knows?

I will say from my perception I have seen several snarky responses to people that I would consider condescending, not because of the facts given but the manner it was given. Not everyone responds to "tough love", in fact I'm sure it's chased more than one person off of here. Heck I know it has because I've had private conversations with 3 people who didn't like the way they were talked to.

The only thing that personally bothers me on here is the whole vets vs newbie comments. Everyone was new once and everyone will be a vet one day.

This comment you made "What I know about weight loss surgery is superior to what someone else knows, if I know more." reminds me of a shirt I once owned it read "I'm not conceited I'm just better than everyone else"

It just boils down to it's not what you say but how you say it. Simple as that.

While I think most of us appreciate the vets input and knowledge no one comes to a support forum to wak away feeling stupid or berated.  And not everyone has the benefit of good aftercare, that's obvious to most of us.

I know geometry better than probably everyone else on here except perhaps some other geometry teacher on here, so my knowledge of GEOMETRY might be superior to others.

That was the point of what you quoted.... y'know the part in italics.

I'm sure that 99.9% of you have knowlege in things that is FAR superior to mine

My point is that my knowlege might be superior to someone else.... but as a person, I AM NOT SUPERIOR

That was my point.

One other thing, If you walk away from here feeling stupid or berated, that is within you

YOU choose to allow words on a screen to have that effect on you

I'm not going to change who I am or how I say what I say. I'm me, warts and all.

It's up to the person *****ads my words to take from them what they want. YOU decide what the words mean to you. I can't control what you get out of them, and I shouldn't have to.
