severe upper abdominal pain

Okay, so a little background. I had gastric bypass in Jan 2011. but prior to my surgery (Oct 2010) I got ERCP induced pancreatitis. OMG that was so horribly painful. so, this afternoon at work I began to have severe upper abdominal pain. it felt almost exactly like when I had pancreatitis. sharp radiating pain that went clear through to my back. I could hardly stand up straight and couldn't take a deep breath without hurting like crazy. can you have another episode after so much time just out of the blue? I mean, I know what caused me to have it the first time, but I have not had any type of medical procedure where my pancreas could have been irritated. I've also thought it could possibly be my gall bladder. I came home and took a pain pill and the pain has subsided for the moment, just wondering if anyone has had something similar happen.

If the pain is that severe, you probably need to call your doc or go to the ER.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

I agree with Kelly, if your pain is severe, you need to seek medical treatment. I hope you're feeling better!

Anytime you have SEVERE pain, call your surgeon, or go to ER

if you have a GB it very likely could be that.

My GB almost exploded.... that's nearly always fatal.

Don't play with your health.

It could be your gall bladder and it could be pancreatitis also. A gallstone can block your pancreatic duct causing the enzyme to be absorbed (eat) your pancreatitis.  It is the 2nd cause of pancreatitis (alcoholism is the first, but there are other reasons too)  My mom had it back in 2004 and was very sick...some people do die from pancreatitis. She lost some of her pancreas and now has to eat a low fat diet, take enzymes with meals and insulin for the rest of her life.
