 Hey friends,

This is my first post-op post (so exciting and weird to say).  I have an moderate pain on my left side at my "major" incision.  This is the one where the dr did all of the munipulating of my insides.  It feels like a torn muscle and mostly hurts when I move.

I've been off pain meds since sunday, when I came home from the hospital, but Im wondering if I can take something that would help with this pain.  Without the pain, I would be feeling pretty good!

Thanks for everyone's well wishes!!!  Let the weight melt away!!!

I had my surgery on 4/23/12 and my incision on the left side hurt for over 3 weeks.  I have a low pain tolerance and was on pain pills or 2 1/2 weeks.  Anyway, The pain on the left side is the worst spot and it does go away, it just takes a little longer.  Hope you feel better soon,

Karen,  Thank you so much!  I think that is what I needed to hear!  I also have a very low pain tolerance, but took myself off pain meds because i felt so sick from them!  I will count the days and and hope everyone gets a little better!!!

That is where it hurt the most for me after surgery.  I noticed that every day it got easier and then one day I forgot all about it.  Did they give you pain meds to take at home?  If you are uncomfortable take it.  There is no reason to be in pain.  You have enough trying to get fluids in and to walk you don' t need the added stress of pain.

I can relate Katy Beth. I had RNY last Monday and stopped my pain meds on the 2nd day home. However, that pulling feeling got to me and I started being concerned that I had inflammation that I took some of the Lortab yesterday and I'm so glad that I did. Now, I'll take as needed. I was trying to be stoic / trooper but realized that I may have been doing more harm than good.

Do you have anything from liquid pain relievers from the doc? Glad that you're feeling well otherwise!

That is the main side where work was performed, and also where your remnant stomach is. It's been cut and sutured so it's tight and pulling inside and that's prob where you have the pain from.
But as always, if you're unsure....call your surgeon.

Personally, I I don't believe in being sick or in pain.  If it hurts, take your medicine.  That's what it's for.  Sometimes the side effects are worse than the medicine, so choose whatever makes you feel best. Some folks think there is virtue in unnecessary suffering, but I'm not one of them.

I think I was 6 to 8 weeks out before I stopped having muscle pains in my side.

But call your surgeon and ask them

Well, you do have a torn muscle. Your surgeon just cut through it, as well as your "old" stomach.

I was in alot of pain for 3 months post op. Lots. I had no complications, but I had a very rough recovery in the sense of it just seeming to take forever before the pain was gone.

When in doubt, call your surgeon and ask. I did many times and mine always told me why I was feeling what I was feeling and explained what I'd feel if I needed to go to the ER. I guess I'm a hypochondriac, as soon as he put my mind to rest the pain partly subsided.
