What kind of dr orders the HIDA scan?
I would assume either of them could order it unless your insurance has some sort of rule about it. Do you have a gastroenterologist?
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
Solise, I'm sorry this is still ongoing. Call your insurance company and find out if they have to authorize a HIDA scan. If they don't, ask your gastroenterologist to order it.
Some insurances do require the PCP to order mostly everything. A stupid rule, but that might be the case.

Thanx guys. I appreciate the help. Im in so much pain every single day that i just really need to know if this is the problem. If not my surgeon has said he will do an exploratory surgery to try and uncover the source of this pain.
My insurance company does have to approve the test, the problem seems to be with who can actually order the test and who cant.

You have certainly gotten the runaround with this whole problem. But it does sound like you are closing in on things. If insurance has to approve it, I'd call the insurance company and ask from whom they need to have the request. Then bug the heck out of that do****il they cave and order the darn test. Good luck, you are almost there!
Do you have an HMO or Managed care plan? If so, sometimes the specialists wil refer you to the PCP to order the test. Especially if there are referral related issues or prior authorizations required. I. e. your referral was only for an office visit, and didn't have anything like 'consult and treat on it'.
At this point I would suggest having your surgeon's office do a three way call with you and the PCP's office. Between the three of you it should be able to work out who can order you this test.
